摘要: A liquid container which can precisely detects existence/absence of residual liquid at a low cost, a cartridge including the liquid container, and a printing apparatus using the cartridge. The lengthwise direction of a triangular prism provided on the bottom of the ink tank is along a direction of print medium conveyance in the printing apparatus, such that when an ink-jet head cartridge holding the ink tank is attached to the printing apparatus for performing printing, light emitted from an optical unit of the printing apparatus is precisely captured by the prism. Further, if two ink-jet head cartridges are mounted on the printing apparatus, the first and second ink-jet head cartridges are set in positions shifted from each other by a length shorter than the length in the lengthwise direction of the prism, such that the light emitted from the optical unit reaches the prisms provided in the ink tanks of the first and second ink-jet head cartridges.

摘要: An ink jet recording head has a plurality of discharge energy generating devices for discharging recording liquid, while being provided with a recording element base plate arranged on the face opposite to the surface where the devices are arranged, having a plurality of recording liquid supply ports for supplying recording liquid to the devices, as well as with a supporting member that holds and fixes the recording element base plate. For the supporting member, a plurality of recording liquid supply paths are arranged to supply recording liquid to each of the supply ports of the recording element base plate, respectively, and then, the flow path width of each supply flow path is formed to be smaller than the opening width of inlet portion of each supply port. Further, the steps to be created between the supply flow path and the supply port is buried by the bonding agent forced out from the bonding face of the recording element base plate and the supporting member. With the structure thus arranged, the ink jet recording head is capable of optimizing the discharge characteristics of recording liquid and the supply characteristics thereof, as well as the positioning precision of a recording element base plate to a supporting member.

摘要: An ink container for containing ink to be supplied to a recording head includes a main body, an ink absorbing material accommodated in the main body to contain the ink, a connecting portion relative to a supply tube of the recording head for supplying ink to the recording head, and a refilling connection at a position different from that of the connecting portion for refilling the ink. An ink absorption member is provided at the refilling connection portion, the ink absorption member having a bundle of fibers and a capillary force higher than that of the ink absorbing material. In an ink jet recording apparatus usable with such an ink container, a refilling mechanism is provided to fill the ink into the refilling connection portion, the refilling mechanism including an ink chamber for containing ink and an ink discharge member of porous material for press-contactedly supplying ink to the ink absorption member. In preferred embodiments, the ink absorption member has a capillary force higher than that of the ink absorbing material, and the ink discharge member has a density smaller than that of the ink absorption member.

摘要: An ink tank having a negative pressure generating member for retaining ink, a case for accommodating the negative pressure generating member, the case having an atmosphere communicating portion held in communication with the atmosphere and an ink supply portion through which the ink is led out to the exterior, and an ink holding member disposed near the ink supply portion and developing a higher capillary action than the negative pressure generating member, wherein a recess is formed in an inner surface of a side wall of the case adjacent to a wall provided with the ink supply portion, the recess extending in a direction from the side of a wall opposing the wall provided with the ink supply portion toward the ink supply portion. Alternatively, in an ink tank having no ink holding member, at least a part of inner surfaces of the case is subjected to pear-skin treatment. With those ink tanks, a satisfactory ink supply ability is obtained while achieving a reduction of the tank size.

摘要: A magnetic disc has a magnetic recording area on or from which the information may be recorded or reproduced by a recording head loaded on a slider. The magnetic recording area has a data area including a recording track as a crest and a guard band as a valley, and a servo area having servo marks as crests and valleys. A CSS area for contact-start-stop (CSS) with the slider is made up of CSS data areas radially consecutive to the data areas and CSS servo areas radially consecutive to the servo areas. The entire surfaces of the CSS servo areas may be planarized at the same height level as the recording tracks. The CSS servo areas are provided with the same pattern of crests and valleys similar to that of the data areas. This suppresses generation of powder debris during CSS while optimizing the amount of float of the slider and the floating posture in the CSS area.
