Abstract: A stand for holding compact discs and/or tape cassettes preferably has a rotatably mounted part (1) made up of a multiplicity of bar-shaped elements (7, 8) of two different types. These elements have transverse grooves enabling them to be fitted one on the other in parallel pairs, with alternate pairs at right angles to each other, thus giving two pairs of parallel walls. The elements (7, 8) also have longitudinal ribs (9) located opposite each other in pairs, thus providing lateral supports for the objects. The individual components can be provided as a kit which enables the stand to be transported and distributed in unassembled form. A second, smaller, part (2), can be mounted on the first (1) and connected to it. This second part is designed to hold differently shaped objects, such as audio cassettes.

Abstract: A compact disk assembly rack structure includes two elongated strips, a lower frame, two rods, two support frames and an upper frame as well as a multiplicity of screws. Each of the strips have an upper groove for receiving a longer side of the lower frame which is squeezed through a gap into a circular portion below to be positioned therein. A rod is then fitted into the upper groove of the strip. The support frames each have a clamp for fastening onto a corresponding narrow portion of a shorter side of the lower frame. The upper frame has flat surfaces formed at two shorter sides thereof corresponding to flat surfaces formed at the top of the support frames. Each of the shorter sides of the upper frame is fastened to each of the support frames by screws passing through the flat surfaces of the upper frame into the flat surfaces of the support frames. A number of compact disk racks may be placed one on top of the other for storage or transportation. The compact disk assembly rack may be partly assembled so that the support frames may be folded inwardly to rest in the hollow space of the lower frame, while the upper frame is placed horizontally around the lower frame, achieving the purposes of saving space in storage and transportation.

Abstract: A lightweight carousel is disclosed for use in an automatic cartridge library system, featuring a system of guide blocks and springs to hold tape cartridges securely but permit their removal and replacement by bidirectional manipulators. The manipulators carry hinged hooks that can be used to push cartridges radially outward, or upon flexing of the hinges, expand to grip the cartridge for pulling radially inward. A reflective optical sensor is used to confirm that each cartridge in the carousel is properly placed. Optical sensors also verify proper rotation of the carousel, index the carousel, and detect the presence of cartridges in the tape drives. The carousel carries drive pins which seat in tapered holes in an index plate, and is driven by a zero-backlash belt.

Abstract: A compact disc and data cartridge storage has a base, a back, a front and first and second opposite sides. A plurality of parallel ribs extend along a rear portion of the base and a lower portion of the back for separating stored data packages. The base has a rear portion and a front portion respectively sloped rearward and forward from a center line which extends between the sides. The front portion is longer than the rear portion. Ribs extend upward from the front and rear position to guide and separate the data packages. In one form, the ribs extend fully along the back portion and partially along the front portion for storing tall and thin objects between the ribs, leaning against the back portion with centers of gravity rearward of the central ridge before tipping selected thin objects forward and moving the center of gravity forward of the central ribs and allowing the thin objects to slide downward along the front portion of the base while held vertically between the ribs. In one form, the ribs have a series of alternate short profile ribs and tall profile ribs. The short profile ribs are positioned nearest the sides and tall profile ribs are positioned intermediate the short profile ribs, with one more short profile rib than tall profile rib.
