    Abstract: Apparatus for feeding pieces of material to a cutting tool which sequentially cuts slices from each piece of the material, stores block-like pieces of the material in a stack from which a single piece is discharged to be sliced, displaces the uncut portion of a piece to the side away from the cutting tool after completion of each slicing advance thereby to retract the uncut portion past the tool without interference, engages the residual portion of the piece which is too thin to be again sliced to control its removal from the machine, and separates the residual piece from the last slice cut from it without damage to the slice.

    Abstract: Strain mechanism for bandmill using deadweight lever mechanism in which undesirable effects of inertia of counterweight and friction at knife edges are reduced. Rolling diaphragm air cylinder is used in one of three positions. In first position cylinder extends between arbor carrier arm and plunger tube and supplies portion of saw strain permitting lighter counterweight. In second position it extends between counterweight arm and plunger tube and eliminates counterweights. In third position counterweight is supported on counterweight arm by yoke supported by cylinder which resiliently mounts weight.

    Abstract: Contour machine in which a worktable is fixed, and enclosed wheels are provided for mounting a band saw, the machine being pivotable with respect to a base, and in which a rotary table, mounted on the worktable, may be automatically set into rotation in the forward or reverse direction or stopped through a curvesensing guide mechanism. The machine body is pivotable with respect to the base in a plane perpendicular to the face of the band saw, together with upper and lower housings which lodge wheels for guiding the band saw. The machine has means to provide an adjustable and reproducible relationship of the body with respect to the base, as well as means for immobilizing the pivoted machine body in various positions. In addition, with a view to attaining savings in manpower and automation of operation, units are provided for indication of the saw tension, for bringing a saw-container housing to a saw-mounting position, for clamping the saw, for adjusting the relative distance between a workpiece and a saw-blade guide mechanism, and a unit for stopping the saw movement upon completion of the machining operation.

    Abstract: A portable band saw device including a frame supporting a prime mover which drives a first pulley, a second pulley being supported on an arm pivotally connected to the frame so that said second pulley is movable relatively toward and away from the driven pulley against the resistance of a spring, the band saw blade being extended around the two pulleys and guided by arrangements on one side of the frame, while a guard on the opposite side prevents inadvertent cutting at that location, both pulleys having provisions for adjustments of their axes of rotation, including an arrangement for tilting the arm carrying the second pulley.
