Abstract:
An active measurement and control system for a material cutting apparatus. The apparatus comprises a cutting tool which may be pivoted for cutting a workpiece in a cutting area at a selectable angle. The cutting area defines a datum plane, and a feed table with a shuttle vise is used to move the workpiece toward the cutting area. A controller controls the feed distance of the shuttle vise and the cutting angle of the tool in response to a signal from a sensor used for sensing a transverse dimension of the workpiece relative to the datum plane. In this way, the feed distance and cutting angle are adjusted to compensate for variations in the transverse dimension. This transverse dimension can include a displacement from the datum plane of a distal and/or proximate surface of the workpiece. A method of cutting a workpiece is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A horizontal bandsaw is mounted in a tool carrier above a workpiece location. Before it starts cutting the bandsaw is tilted an angle between 3.degree. and 10.degree. and after the initial cut that angle is maintained during the rest of the cut until the intended depth of cut is reached or closely approached, when the saw tilt is removed as the structure containing the bandsaw is swung to orient the bandsaw horizontally. If the depth of cut is a complete cut through, the advantage of a minimum erosion of the center selvage of the workpiece support is assured. Mechanical limits are provided for the vertical displacement by tilt at one side of the workpiece and on that side one of the guides of the structure supporting the bandsaw has a hydraulic changeover control in which the angle of tilt is set by adjustable screw-stops which cooperate with stop plates mounted on the structure supporting the bandsaw.
Abstract:
A metal cutting band saw is provided with guides for the cutting reach of the blade. With the band saw in upright position the guides hold the blade in the normal position, i.e., parallel to the axes of the rollers over which the blade passes. However, when the head of the band saw is tipped down to approximate a horizontal position, the guides are reset to twist the cutting reach of the blade on the order of 45* from its normal position to allow cutting of pieces which are too large otherwise to reach through the throat of the band saw.
Abstract:
Contour machine in which a worktable is fixed, and enclosed wheels are provided for mounting a band saw, the machine being pivotable with respect to a base, and in which a rotary table, mounted on the worktable, may be automatically set into rotation in the forward or reverse direction or stopped through a curvesensing guide mechanism. The machine body is pivotable with respect to the base in a plane perpendicular to the face of the band saw, together with upper and lower housings which lodge wheels for guiding the band saw. The machine has means to provide an adjustable and reproducible relationship of the body with respect to the base, as well as means for immobilizing the pivoted machine body in various positions. In addition, with a view to attaining savings in manpower and automation of operation, units are provided for indication of the saw tension, for bringing a saw-container housing to a saw-mounting position, for clamping the saw, for adjusting the relative distance between a workpiece and a saw-blade guide mechanism, and a unit for stopping the saw movement upon completion of the machining operation.
Abstract:
A cutting-angle adjustable bandsaw is provided with a base, a first mounting seat, a second mounting seat, a first saw table, a second saw table, a first drive unit, a second drive unit, a bandsaw unit and an adjustment unit. The first and second drive units can make the first and second saw tables move to different horizontal planes, so as to adjust the band blade riding between the drive wheel and the assistant wheel to an inclined position, so that the cutting angle of the band blade is changed to reduce the contact area between the band blade and the object to be cut, resulting in a reduction of cutting resistance and power saving.
Abstract:
A vertical saw machine includes a column with upper and lower supports carrying a motor to drive a saw blade. A table is disposed between the upper and lower supports for supporting a workpiece. The saw blade intersects the table with an included angle. The column is turnable between normal and inclined positions to vary the included angle. A frame post is mounted under the table to be positioned on the ground surface. A key slot and a key member are disposed respectively in and on the frame post and the column, and confine an arcuate guiding route to retainingly guide the column to move between the two positions.
Abstract:
A band saw machine which comprises a generally elongated frame structure including an endless band saw trained between and adapted to travel over a pair of spaced guide wheels and having cutting and return reaches therebetween, a positioning mechanism for fixedly supporting a stock to be cut, and a rocking mechanism including a pair of spaced reciprocating drives for rocking the endless band saw through a predetermined angle in the opposite directions generally about the stock to be cut, with the opposite ends of the frame structure alternately upwardly and downwardly shifted. The frame structure is supported for movement relative to the positioning mechanism between inoperative and cutting positions in a direction generally perpendicular to the stock. The rocking mechanism is operable at least during the cutting operation performed by the cutting reach of the endless band saw.
Abstract:
Turning of a hand wheel at the front of a vertical head band saw machine tilts the column thereof on coaxial trunnions which are journaled in bearings on the rear of the saw carriage. The upper and lower saw pulleys are disposed in the plane containing the column tilt axis, with their axles normal to said plane and supported at zones equidistant therefrom by column carried arms that embrace each pulley. One end portion of each axle is detachable to enable a saw band to be trained over its pulley. A motor drives the upper pulley, and band tension is adjusted by bodily movement of the lower pulley, which is weighted to act as a flywheel.
