摘要： A lighted switch set gauge includes Hall effect devices using a circuit activating switch attached to a lower extension of indicating and switch set pointers. The switch set pointer is externally adjustable. An overriding slip gear with automatic spring-back is incorporated in the switch set arm prevent damage to the set pointer at the extreme ends of its range of movement. The indicating pointer can be calibrated without removing a hub attached to the shaft of the gauge meter movement.

摘要： An apparatus for signalling an operating condition of a cooking vessel is provided to signal a user of the cooking vessel when a preset condition is reached in the cooking vessel, e.g. temperature or pressure. Cooking vessels are frequently provided with an operating condition display device, such as a thermometer or a pressure gauge, which have a measurement scale and an indicator element moving relative to the measurement scale to indicate the internal condition of the cooking vessel. The apparatus of the present invention provides a housing having therein a detector for detecting a change in the reflected surface light from the operating condition display device caused by the presence of the indicator element of the display device. When the detector detects the change in the reflected light due to the presence of the indicator element, a signalling device, such as an acoustical or optical signalling device, is activated to signal the user of the cooking vessel. The apparatus can be set along the measurement scale at a desired operating condition, such as a specific temperature or pressure, so that the user is warned when the cooking vessel reaches this condition.

摘要： An adjustable signalling gauge may utilize a non-captivating, magnetically actuated switch element which is mounted in an influence zone of the path of a magnet carried by an indicating pointer of a gauge. The gauge may be easily adjusted by an indirect adjustment mechanism. The adjustment may be by a reducing gear. Indirect adjustment effectively allows a reduction in the torque required to change the switching threshold.

摘要： At least two magnetic-reed switches are mounted at spaced angular locations beneath the scale of a Bourdon-type pressure gage wherein the needle tip carries a permanent magnet. The reed switches change their respective states upon sensed-pressure descent to first and second predetermined levels of pressure, respectively indicative of different impending needs to switch a new container into the line of pressure delivery to beverage-dispensing apparatus. In one form, the impending needs reflect corresponding situations of remaining gas content of the cylinder, for room temperature storage and for cold-room storage, respectively; and a manual switch at the gage enables the gage to perform, as is appropriate for the particular situation of stored-container temperature. In another form, the second or additional magnetic-reed switch is positioned beneath the scale for operation upon a sensed low level of gas-pressure effectiveness for beverage dispensing. In all cases, wiring connections to the switches of the gage operate indicator-lamp/alarm functions at a remote monitoring-unit location, whereby management personnel may take responsible action.

摘要： Apparatus and method for determining vehicular distance per fuel unit, such as the miles per gallon or liter of fuel consumed in driving a car. The vehicle has a fuel gage, and when stopped on, or operating on level road, a reference mark is made where the fuel gage pointer is then located and the odometer mileage reading is recorded. Vehicle operation is continued and when convenient, fuel is then added to the fuel tank to cause the pointer to show a greater quantity of fuel in the tank than is shown by the reference mark. The vehicle is then driven until the fuel gage pointer again returns to the reference mark, and the total distance traversed is also determined. With the knowledge of the amount of fuel consumed and the total distance traversed, the distance traversed per unit of fuel can be calculated. The reference mark is preferably established by means of a sight device which permits the operator to accurately locate the reference mark in alignment with the fuel gage pointer, and visual assists are available in the sight device for the accurate alignment mentioned.

摘要： A system is disclosed for detecting the position of the pointer of a gauge. The system includes a stationary light source which is positioned adjacent the pointer. A lens receives the light from the light source and redirects the light in at least one elongated light beam directed toward the pointer. In the preferred embodiment, the light source is located along the pointer's axis of rotation and the lens bends the light rays 90.degree. to form at least one arcuate light beam. A plurality of elongated light beams can be used and variations of different shapes of light beams can readily be used by so designing the lens means. A light sensitive detector is positionable in the gauge itself and is movable along a guided path on the opposite side of the pointer than is the light source. The guided path generally follows the particular shape of light beams that is directed toward the needle. The function of the light detector is to sense, and provide some signal when the pointer passes across the sensor, thereby substantially reducing the amount of light directed toward the sensor. In this manner the detector signals the position of the pointer. The sensor may be moved within limits to an infinite number of positions along the elongated light beam by conveniently located knobs outside the gauge. The operator thus can, by simply turning a knob, adjust a sensor to a desired position and the sensor will detect when the gauge pointer passes or remains at that position.

摘要： Regulator-meter apparatus includes signal-responsive meter mechanism for projecting a light spot onto a transparent screen such that the spot traverses the screen during signal-caused movement of the mechanism. The position of the spot on the screen is detected by two photosensitive elements which define one set point for the regulator portion of the apparatus, the elements being spaced apart a distance slightly greater than the corresponding cross-sectional dimensions of the spot and having the outputs thereof connected to different ones of the set and reset inputs of a bistable multivibrator. The bistable assumes either its set or reset state depending upon the position of the spot relative to the elements. Circuitry is provided for effecting initial full-scale energization and de-energization of the mechanism, causing the bistable to assume a known initial state, for example, the reset state. The cross-sectional shape of the spot is defined by a suitably apertured mask, mounted so as to be responsive to the displacements of both a proportionaleffect and an integral-effect bimetallic element.
