摘要： The present invention provides an instrument device which is enhanced a texture while creating a sense of depth by superimposing and stereoscopically disposing a light-guiding member on an indicator panel of the instrument device, and which has a good appearance and a novel visibility when illuminated. An instrument device with a good appearance and novel visibility is provided which includes an indicator panel (5), an instrument main part (2), an indicator needle (4) that is provided to the instrument main part (2), a transparent light-guiding member (6) that is disposed on the indicator panel (5), and a light source (7) that enters light beams into the light-guiding member (6). The light-guiding member is provided with a plurality of light-guiding portions (61) which are provided at the outer circumferential portion of the light-guiding member with predetermined intervals and which reflect light beams from the light source (7) in the direction toward the rotation center of the indicator needle (4), so that portions of the indicator panel (5) shine like strips with predetermined intervals, and the indicator panel (5) and the light-guiding member (6) are illuminated in a stereoscopic manner.

The indication area can have a shape that can be defined by a bottom boundary, a top boundary, and first and second ends joining respective ends of the top and bottom boundaries. The top and bottom boundaries can be spaced apart from the gauge center by first and second radial distances. The indication area can be angled rearward relative to the face plate with the top boundary being spaced rearward from the face plate. A plurality of indicia can be disposed on the face plate. The gauge can further include a laser system disposed behind a rear side of the face plate and arranged to rotate and reflect a laser beam to a position adjacent or relative to a specific one of the plurality of indicia based on a signal output from a sensor.

A pointer is rotatably mounted in the instrument cluster and movable to a plurality of positions relative to the dial. A light source is disposed in the gauge and adapted to direct light in a first direction. A light diverting member is disposed adjacent to the light source and receives light from the light source. The light diverting member includes a first and a second light exit areas. The first light exit area is adapted to direct a first portion of the light generally away from the dial. The second light exit area is adapted to direct a second portion of the light generally toward the dial.

摘要： A radio receiver and magnetic tape player combination having a radio control mechanism and a housing with an opening to receive a magnetic tape cartridge, includes a dial door and station indicator mounted in the housing and movable between a first position wherein the opening is closed and a second position clear of the opening to permit entry of the cartridge. The dial door and station indicator includes indicia therein to indicate the frequency to which the radio receiver is tuned, and an angled reflecting surface positioned adjacent the indicia. A pointer, movably mounted in the housing and operatively connected to the radio control mechanism, includes a reflecting surface on one end. When the pointer is illuminated by a light source mounted in the housing, the reflection from the reflecting surface of the pointer impinges upon the beveled surface to cause the pointer to appear on the background indicia within the dial door to indicate the frequency to which the radio receiver is tuned.

摘要： A method for detecting structural flaws in filamentary reinforced composite structures is described. A plurality of optical lead glass or other suitable ''''light-piping'''' filaments are positioned within the structure during manufacture, such that the ends of the filaments are accessible when the structure is complete. A failure, or flaw, within the structure traversed by the lead glass filaments will sever the lead glass filaments. A severed glass filament will not ''''pipe'''' light, as it did before the discontinuity occurred. This change can be detected during an inspection procedure which consists of applying a light source to one end of the filament, and monitoring the light output at the other end of the filament. The position of the lead glass filament within the structure can be ascertained by radiographic inspection. The modulus of elasticity of the optical filament is matched with the elastic modulus of the structural filaments to optimize the detection of flaws.

摘要： A cup-shaped meter case made of a light conductive material has a light source mounted interior of the bottom surface thereof. The edge of the case is terminated in an inwardly directed, in cross-section generally triangular, rim. The edge of the case is additionally beveled on both the inner and outer surfaces to direct light conducted from the light source through the case side into the triangular rim from where it is dispersed both inwardly and outwardly of the case to illuminate a dial suitably located outwardly of the rim and to illuminate a meter plate and needle located inwardly of the rim. In one alternate embodiment the case side is shown separated from the case bottom so that the rim may be rotated with respect to the light source. In a further embodiment a separate dial plate is shown fitted over the rim and rotatable thereon.
