Abstract:
In order to provide an image reading apparatus of which a contact glass sheet can be replaced and recycled with ease without damaging the contact glass sheet when removing the same, and further intrusion of particles of dust into the apparatus when operating the apparatus can be prevented, an image reading apparatus having an image reading unit mounted to be able to be reciprocated in a frame body of the apparatus and a contact glass sheet is composed such that; the frame body comprises an upward-open lower frame in which the image reading unit is accommodated to be able to be reciprocated and an upper frame having an opening on the upper face thereof to be covered with the contact glass sheet, the upper and lower frames are assembled detachably by means of fitting portions provided to both frames, the contact glass sheet is attached to said upper frame by means of a strip-shaped adhesive member glued onto the undersurface of the upper frame along the brim part of the opening to be covered with the contact glass sheet, the strip-shaped adhesive member is glued onto the undersurface of the upper frame so that the strip is not continuous but partially interrupted to provide interrupted parts, and the glass sheet supports protruding from the lower frame are positioned to support the contact glass sheet at the position corresponding to the interrupted parts of the strip-shaped adhesive member.
Abstract:
A device includes: a first lighting unit that illuminates an object at a first incident angle; a second lighting unit that illuminates an object at a second incident angle, the second incident angle being larger than the first incident angle; an image-input unit that receives light and generates image signals in accordance with the received light; and a guiding unit that guides light diffusely reflected from the object illuminated by either the first lighting unit or the second lighting unit to the image-input unit.
Abstract:
A double-lens optical scanning device and method of using the same. Wherein, a housing of said optical scanning device is provided with a photograph cartridge insertion slot and a negative cartridge insertion slot, that can be inserted photograph-, negative-, or slide-to-be-scanned. Said housing comprises a light source, two optical lenses, and at least an image sensor. Said two optical lenses are provided with different light paths, such that said image sensor is utilized to determine a category of an object-to-be-scanned, in selecting said optical lens to be used and a direction of said light source. A switching circuit is utilized to switch said optical lens to be used, fetch an image of said object-to-be-scanned, and then focus it onto said image sensor to form said image, and convert it into digital data for output.
Abstract:
An optical scanning unit of an image forming apparatus may include: an optical housing configured to include at least one optical part and to have a light-beam emitting aperture through which a light beam can emanate from the optical housing; a shutter configured to cover the light-beam emitting aperture; and a driving unit configured to drive the shutter to and fro, thus opening and closing the light-beam emitting aperture. Such a driving unit further can operate to coordinate at least one of the opening and the closing to occur after activation and before deactivation of a writing operation conducted by the optical scanning unit, respectively.
Abstract:
A scanning module includes a body casing having a light passage slit thereon, a plurality of reflecting mirrors located inside the body casing, a light-channeling apparatus, and a light guiding body. The light-channeling apparatus includes a first light-guiding tube positioned between a light source and a document, and a second light-guiding tube positioned between the document and the light passage slit. The light-guiding body is positioned inside the first light-guiding tube or the second light-guiding tube.
Abstract:
A rear side surface of a frame of an image-forming apparatus has throttle portions protruding toward the inside of the frame. By aligning the screw holes in the throttle portions and the through-holes in a guide rail and then screwing screws into these holes, the guide rail is fixed to the rear side surface with a predetermined distance therebetween. This restricts deformation of the guide rail due to a load applied by opening and closing the document holding plate.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus includes a first running device that moves to scan a document at a predetermined speed, which includes an illumination unit and a first mirror; a second running device that moves in the scanning direction parallel to the first running device with half the predetermined speed of the first running device, which includes second and third mirrors; an imaging lens to produce an reduced image; and a line sensor to convert the reduced image to an electrical signal. At least one of the second and third mirrors is comprised of a spherical surface and a curvature radius of the spherical surface of such mirror is such that a distance deviation between the imaging lens and an imaging surface remains within usable range for actual operation regardless of movements of the first and second running devices.

An image reading apparatus is equipped with an optical unit. Just prior to shifting to a low power-consumption mode, the optical unit is shifted to a low power-consumption position that is different from a home position.
Abstract:
A vibration mirror used in an optical scanning device has two reflection surfaces on opposite sides. A pair of light beams corresponding to a pair of different colors are irradiated on one reflection surface and another pair of light beams corresponding to another pair of different colors are irradiated on other reflection surface. If there are fluctuations in dimensions or a change in temperature, because the vibration mirror is one, all the colors are subjected to the same influences.
