摘要： A system is provided for generating prescription wheelchair seats or specialized seating or body supports. The system includes a deformable seat portion which is formed to specialized dimensions of a seated patient. A planar, linear, array of linear transducers is stepped across the form in one dimension forming a series of signals representative of generally planar cross sections of the form. This series of cross-sectional signals is provided as an input to a numerically controlled cutting device which cuts a series of sheet stock foam in accordance with each cross-sectional area measured. These cross-sectional pieces are then assembled into the prescription seat.

摘要： A seat base is interposed between a supporting surface, such as the sling-type seat of a wheelchair, and a cushion or even the user, it having a lower contour which generally matches the contour of the supporting surface and a upper contour which provides a comfortable seating surface or gives a desired shape to an overlying cushion. The lower contour is established by a plurality of transversely directed ribs, whereas the upper contour is established by transversely directed panels located between the ribs. The polymer material from which the seat base is formed has uniform thickness and as a consequence the ribs create grooves that open out of the upper surface to separate the panels.

摘要： A wheelchair seat back kit is disclosed, including a seat back defining shell having a generally upright back portion, and two integral sides leading forward therefrom. The outside dimension between the sides is less than the clear distance between the back posts of a wheelchair. Attachment points are provided for securing the shell with respect to the back posts at upper and lower seat back attachment points, with the back of the shell positionable rearward of the plane of the back posts. Preferably, at least the lower portions of the sides of the seat back project forward sufficiently to provide lateral hip support for a user of the wheelchair, and padding is positionable on the inside of the lower portions of the sides to narrow the dimension between the lower portions as required to provide the hip support for any given user. Bracket assemblies may be used to provide different seat back positions and angles. For example, the bracket assemblies may each include a vertical seat back support plate extending rearwardly from each back post, each support plate having several upper and lower attachment points.

摘要： A vehicle passenger safety seat for handicapped persons is designed for positioning and detachably mounting over the existing conventional seat on a bus, van, or other such vehicle. The supporting frame of the safety seat is constructed from a perforated sheet of aluminum material bent into a configuration having a seat and vertical back. A pair of retractable straps are attached to the upper portion of the seat back, which straps are lapped over the top of and downwardly behind the vehicles seat where the straps are latched to the floor of the vehicle to prevent forward tilting of the safety seat. A second retractable strap is attached to the rear of the foot rest and extends under the vehicle seat to the floor latch. Overlying the tubular aluminum frame is a cushioned seat. Arm rests attached to the frame are pivotally mounted for ease in placing the handicapped person into the seat. An optional head rest supports the head of the passenger and a foot support attached to the front of the seat supports the feet of the passenger. A shoulder harness and lap belt are provided for support of the passenger in the seat during travel. A wheeled dolly which removably receives the safety seat is provided for transport of the handicapped person in the seat from the vehicle to another site.

摘要： A holder apparatus, being attachable on a wheelchair frame for holding a catheter bag and the like, includes a pouch defining a rectangular-shaped compartment closed at its bottom and open at its top for permitting a catheter bag to be easily inserted therein or removed therefrom, and attachment components in the form of an elongated pivot rod mounted across the pouch adjacent to the closed bottom thereof and being adapted for mounting the pouch to a portion of a wheelchair frame so as to locate the pouch below and behind the wheelchair seat. The attachment components also include a pair of clamps connected to the opposite ends of the pivot rod and being adjustable for attaching them upon and releasing them from the wheelchair frame portion. The pivot rod also mounts the pouch for pivotal movement relative to the wheelchair frame portion so as to permit the pouch to be tilted away from the wheelchair seat to a service position in which the catheter bag can be easily inserted into or removed from the pouch or tilted toward the wheelchair seat to a storage position in which the pouch holds the catheter bag substantially out of sight and out of the way while a patient uses the wheelchair. The pivot rod defines a pivotal axis across the pouch being situated relative to the pouch such that when the pouch is in its stored position, its center of gravity is located between the pivotal axis and the wheelchair seat which tends to maintain the pouch in its stored position.

The stand includes an actuator that is operable to positively and safely tilt the tilt frame to recline the wheelchair rearwardly while a person is occupying the chair, so that the person's head will be adjacent and overlying the sink basin.

摘要： A contoured, corrective seat is disclosed for use in connection with a wheelchair wherein the mounting between the seat assembly and the wheelchair is of the quick-release type, and the seat assembly includes a seat frame which is adjustable as to height, depth, and angular relation between a molded buttocks supporting portion and molded back supporting portion thereof, and is also adjustable between the seat proper and the wheelchair. The buttocks and back supporting portions include separate custom molded cushions which are removably positioned in a single frame member capable of functioning as either a buttocks supporting frame or a back supporting frame. Adjustability between the two body supporting frame members allows the respective cushions to be moved relative to one another to compensate for growth in individuals, especially children. Likewise, if the person utilizing the seat of the invention grows to the extent that a new seat is required, a new cushion or cushions may be made and mounted in the existing frame to provide proper fitting for the user while he or she grows without the heretofore needed expense of a completely new seat.
