Abstract:
A drumlike canister onto which a filament is wound is rotatably mounted to an airborne vehicle, the axis of rotation being generally parallel to the vehicle longitudinal axis. At launch, as the filament unwinds and is payed out the canister is rotated to remove the twist from the filament produced on winding.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a picture transmission system of a guided missile which is connected with a ground facility by way of an optical wave guide. This system is arranged that, without any increase of the transmission band width of the optical wave guide, two TV pictures are transmitted to the ground guiding facility, in which case, in addition to the moving picture for the navigation of the guided missile, enlarged stationary pictures for a target identification may also be retrieved, without interfering with the picture-supported navigation. An embodiment is disclosed which includes a camera with a single fixed lens body containing a centrally disposed wide angle lens for sensing navigation aiding images and a surrounding longer focal distance lens for sensing target identification aiding images.
Abstract:
A fiber dispenser 10 which provides a bobbin 12 with an expansion ring 30 mounted on an end thereof. The expansion ring 30 is coaxial with the bobbin 12 and permits the use of a nontapered bobbin for high speed dispensation applications. In a specific embodiment, the invention includes a mechanism for adjusting the diameter of the expansion ring as the fiber is dispensed. A further, more specific embodiment includes a mechanism 42, 44 for adjusting the longitudinal position of the expansion ring 30 as the fiber 21 is wound thereon.
Abstract:
A TV seeker electronic color filter that has a three color striped solid te video sensor chip mounted in the optical path of a TV camera of a missile with the color filter stripes being manually selected by an individual to provide an optical response in portions of the spectrum to enable a target to be enhanced by the selection of the appropriate filter by an individual operator.
Abstract:
Apparatus for interconnecting a missile/RCV launch device with a remote control station includes composite cable having glass fibers for transmitting optical signals and electrical conductors embedded in a coating layer that is reinforced with fibers, for transmitting electric power. The apparatus also includes electrical and optical connectors at the cable end portions wherein the reinforcing fibers are grouped with the glass fiber at termination.
Abstract:
An add-on ballast assembly for adding on to a missile in the field in a fle manner. The ballast is added in the unused hollow center of bobbins secured in the aft end of the missile. The bobbins have guidance wires wound therearound to be dispensed during flight. The addition of the ballast changes the center of gravity of the missile.
Abstract:
In a missile tracking and guidance system, a fiber optic link is maintained between a missile and the launcher. Tracking after launch is via a video link between the missile seeker and a video imager at the launcher. Guidance signals are derived from the video signal input to the imager and transmitted back to the missile. Additionally, rate sensors and an interrupt or reaim circuit within the launcher allows an operator to reacquire the target for refining the missile seeker look axis toward a target during flight. After the target aimpoint is refined the operator can then release the interrupt circuit, allowing the system to continue tracking from the video input, with a newly established seeker heading established during the aimpoint refinement.
Abstract:
A fiber deployment mechanism for deploying a fiber at the launching of a sile to allow the fiber to be deployed without having to take the load as the missile is deployed and before the fiber is actually being paid-out from its bobbin.
