It consists of a light collecting and directing means, such as a reflector or a refractive lens and a corner retro-reflector which is made to oscillate through a range of focal positions. The motion of the retro-reflector causes light from sources at any location in a particular field to periodically be reflected back to that location in a manner that produces either a pulsating signal or a signal that oscillates between separate portions of the device.

A flashing light system for mounting on the roof of a police car or other vehicle where special warning lights are desired. The system includes a plurality of lights preferably arranged side-by-side across the width of the vehicle roof, each of the lights having associated therewith a parabolic reflector or beam-shaping lens which rotates about a vertical axis approximately coaxial with the axis of the corresponding light source thereby creating a flashing effect. The several parabolic reflectors or beam-shaping lenses are driven conjointly from a common drive motor, and the plurality of rotatable reflectors or lenses may be arranged at predetermined angles relative to one another so as to vary the sequence of the light flashes and thus create an unlimited variety of different flashing effects. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, each light source is stationary while its associated reflector or lens rotates, the reflectors or lenses being oriented at different rotational positions relative to one another to achieve the foregoing desired variety of different flashing effects.

An illuminated safety harness adapted for wearing with or without a vest, and having a battery compartment in its belt connected through a switch to lamp sockets fixed on each shoulder. Each lamp socket is designed for a flashing light bulb. The harness has a plurality of reflective, luminescent or phosphorescent patches on its front and back to increase the visibility of the wearer during conditions of poor visibility. The elements of the electrical system are held in the harness which is fitted with snaps so it may be fastened to a vest, or to straps which fasten it directly about a user. The vest is preferably reversible with one side of a white reflective material for night use and the opposed side of a brightly colored material for daytime use.

Recessed in each end portion of the body are a plurality of individual retroreflectors, one coaxial and facing endwise outwardly, the rest spaced lengthwise from it and one another and facing in different generally lateral directions but with their axes intersecting the longitudinal axis of the body and uniformly inclined towards the adjacent body extremity. The incident sectors of the several retroreflectors at each end of the body slightly overlap and complement one another to provide, collectively, a hemispherical incident sector symmetrical to the body axis and complementary to the collective hemispherical incident sector of the retroreflectors at the other end portion of the body.
