    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium, comprising a plastic base coated with a magnetic layer of a ferromagnetic powder dispersed in a resin binder, contains in the magnetic layer .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 particles with an average particle size of 0.1 to 0.3 .mu.m as determined by electron microscopy in an amount of more than 0.5% but less than 15% by weight on the basis of the ferromagnetic powder weight. The .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 particles have an .alpha.-transformation rate of at least 50%. The powder is produced by an organic alumina process.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium is described, comprising a magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic fine particles and a binder coated on one side of a non-magnetic support and a backing layer coated on the opposite side of the non-magnetic support, wherein said ferromagnetic fine particles have a cobalt content of from 2 to 10 wt % with respect to the iron oxide content thereof, the content of divalent iron (Fe.sup.2+) of from 1 to 10 wt % with respect to the trivalent iron (Fe.sup.3+) content thereof, and the specific surface area of from 30 to 50 m.sup.2 /g, said binder comprises a copolymer of vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-maleic acid contained in an amount of 40 wt % or more with respect to the total binder content of the magnetic layer, an abrasive agent having a Mohs hardness of 6 or more is contained in said magnetic layer, and the resulting magnetic tape has a coercive force of from 750 to 900 Oe at 25.degree. C.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium is described, comprising a non-magnetic support having a magnetic layer and a backing layer which is provided on the surface of the support opposite to the magnetic layer, the backing layer containing (a) non-magnetic particles comprising carbon black having an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 1.0 .mu.m, (b) a binder comprising (i) a resin having 150 kg/cm.sup.2 or less of 100% modulus in an amount of at least 50 wt % based on the total amount of binder, and (ii) a diphenyl methane diisocyanate type hardening agent, with the amount of non-magnetic particles to total contained in the backing layer being 40 to 300 parts by weight of non-magnetic particles per 100 parts by weight of binder.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium is disclosed. The medium comprises a non-magnetic support having provided thereon a magnetic layer comprising a binder, a magnetic powder and a powder of an oxide represented by the formula:M-1.multidot.M-2.multidot.O.sub.2+xwherein M-1 is at least one of barium, strontium, lead and calcium; M-2 is at least one member of titanium, zirconium and tin; and x represents a number of from 0 to 0.9. The medium has a high S/N ratio and improved wear resistance and causes only moderate wear of a magnetic head.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium comprising a nonmagnetic support, and a magnetic recording layer formed on said support. The magnetic recording layer comprises a magnetic powder and an abrasive powder dispersed in a resin binder.     Abstract: When an abrasive having an oleophilic surface used in a magnetic recording medium obtained by subjecting an inorganic powder having a Mohs hardness of 5 or above and an average particle size of 2 .mu.m across or below to a dry contact treatment with a dispersing agent having an oleophilic group under grinding conditions giving an impact value of 1 G or greater is used in combination with a magnetic powder as a magnetic recording layer of magnetic recording medium, the wear at a magnetic head can be prevented and still characteristics can be improved.
