Abstract: System, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to adapting vehicle access by detecting a person carrying an object. In one embodiment, a method includes detecting a person near a vehicle for gaining access. The method also includes scanning the person for an object using a radar of the vehicle, wherein information from the radar indicates densities of the person and the object. Upon detecting the object using the densities, the method also includes adapting the access to a compartment of the vehicle.

In one embodiment, a method includes acquiring, from a radar of a vehicle, radar data about a passenger cabin of the vehicle. The method includes determining a current state of the passenger cabin according to the radar data. The method includes, responsive to identifying that the current state indicates an ingress of water into the passenger cabin, generating a response to the ingress of the water.

Abstract: A vehicle certification system includes an emissions sensor configured to capture emissions data of a subject vehicle, a local computing system that includes a processor and a non-transitory computer readable memory, an imaging device communicatively coupled to the processor, a display communicatively coupled to the processor, and a machine-readable instruction set stored in the non-transitory computer readable memory that, when executed by the processor, causes the local computing system to capture image data of the subject vehicle, and a remote server that is configured to receive the emissions data captured by the emissions sensor, determine compliance with at least one emissions criterion based on the emissions data, receive the image data of the subject vehicle captured by the local computing system, and determine compliance with at least one visually verifiable inspection criterion based on the image data.

Abstract: A virtual assistance system for a vehicle is provided. The virtual assistance system includes one or more processors, one or more memory modules communicatively coupled to the one or more processors, an input device communicatively coupled to the one or more processors, an output device communicatively coupled to the one or more processors, and machine readable instructions stored in the one or more memory modules. The virtual assistance system receives, through the input device, a request for an item from a user, retrieves a location of an entity associated the item, calculates an estimated arrival time when the vehicle will arrive at the location, compares the estimated arrival time with a predetermined time associated with the entity, and instructs the output device to generate a delivery prompt related to the item in response to comparing the estimated arrival time with the predetermined time.

Abstract: System, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to improving crash prediction through correlating an observed response and a predicted response of a vehicle. In one embodiment, a method includes generating the predicted response for the vehicle as a function of a response model and according to current vehicle inputs that are control inputs associated with steering, braking, and accelerating the vehicle. The response model is a learning model that predicts behaviors of the vehicle. The method includes computing a residual indicating an extent of correlation between the predicted response and the observed response. The method includes, in response to determining the residual satisfies a crash threshold that indicates an anomaly between the predicted response and the observed response, providing an alert indicating the vehicle has likely crashed.

Abstract: System, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to using vehicles as mobile observation platforms and improving the querying of visual data within the vehicles by leveraging edge computing resources of the vehicles in a distributed network. In one embodiment, a method includes, in response to receiving, in a selected vehicle that is equipped with at least one camera, a visual query from a remote device, identifying search parameters from the query that specify at least visual content that is to be identified. The method includes analyzing a subset of a visual inventory to identify whether the subset includes the visual content by using at least a machine vision model executing on a processor within the selected vehicle. The visual inventory includes camera data that is acquired by the selected vehicle. The method includes communicating detection results about whether the subset includes the visual content to the remote device.
