    Abstract: A narrowband apparatus determines a set of monitored resource blocks (RBs) on a subframe for monitoring for CRS from a base station may monitor for the CRS from the base station on the subframe based on the set of monitored RBs. The base station determines a bandwidth for transmitting the CRS to a user equipment, the bandwidth being less than a system bandwidth and transmits the CRS to the UE using the determined bandwidth. The UE monitors for the CRS on a set of monitored RBs. The set of monitored RBs may include a center set of resource blocks and a number of resources blocks around a center frequency on a subset of subframes. The center set of resource blocks may have a size based on a bandwidth capability of the UE and a system bandwidth.

    Abstract: Design of search spaces and grants in enhanced machine-type communication (eMTC) is discussed in which the search space for common control information is determined based on the search space for non-common control information. In addition, the monitoring of search spaces by mobile devices is also discussed. Additionally, communication schemes between base stations and mobile devices in which information is provided in multiple transmission modes is also discussed. Other aspects discuss schemes for the transmission of control information.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may transmit downlink control information (DCI) to a user equipment (UE) indicating a joint field for at least a first component carrier (CC) and a second CC of a carrier aggregation configuration. For example, the joint field may include a rate matching (RM) indication for the first CC and the second CC, a zero power channel state information reference signal (ZP-CSI-RS) indication for the first CC and the second CC, or both. In some cases, the RM indication may include a common RM resource (RMR) configuration applicable for both the first CC and the second CC or per-CC RMR configurations that indicate separate RMRs for each of the CCs. Additionally, the ZP-CSI-RS indication may include a set identifier that indicates a resource set for ZP-CSI-RS resources for both the first CC and the second CC.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A receiving device may use enhanced techniques for determining whether a transmission is scheduled to include new data when a mode for reporting acknowledgment feedback is disabled for one or more hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) processes used by the receiving device. An enhanced technique may include increasing a quantity of bits used to convey an indication of whether a scheduled data transmission includes new data. An enhanced technique may include monitoring a duration between transmissions scheduled by different control messages based on a timing parameter that indicates a maximum time between transmissions of a data set and corresponding transmission including the data set.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a connection, with base station, over a first and second component carrier and may monitor a search space configured for scheduling multiple component carriers. In some cases, the UE may be configured to monitor a search space allocated for a virtual component carrier associated with scheduling multiple component carriers, or the UE may be configured to monitor for a subset of physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) candidates in search spaces associated with the first and second component carriers, where the subset of PDCCH candidates may be allocated for multi-component carrier scheduling. The UE may receive downlink control information (DCI) that schedules a set of data transmissions over the first and second component carriers and the UE may perform or receive the set of data transmissions over the first and second component carrier.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may measure a physical channel such as a narrowband physical broadcast channel (NPBCH) to supplement (e.g., or as an alternative to) reference signal measurements when determining a received signal measurement, such as a received signal strength or received signal quality of a cell. A base station may transmit an indication to a UE that identifies the frequency at which a portion of NPBCH transmissions (e.g., reserved fields of a master information block (MIB)) is expected to change from one NPBCH transmission to another. The UE may adjust its utilization of NPBCH for determining the received signal measurement based on the indication. Further, the UE may communicate with the cell based on the determination of the received signal measurement, which are based on the indication.
