摘要: Systems and methods, including user interfaces, are provided for implementing searches using contextual information associated with a Web page (or other document) that a user is viewing when a query is entered. The page includes a contextual search interface that has an associated context vector representing content of the page. When the user submits a search query via the contextual search interface, the query and the context vector are both provided to the query processor and used in responding to the query.

摘要: A computer program product provides an active interactive document resource with an active shell surrounding its data. The shell operates in a runtime environment, a nest, and can operate with a helper process for the coordination and distribution of tasks. The active document in conjunction with its shell provides functionality in basic document management features, interactivity features, search, and other miscellaneous features such as imbedding dynamically generated content. Basic document features include automatic update or synchronization of document content, maintaining a list of similar documents, adding related or updated content, automatic update of the document's index, and automatic update and conversion of the underlying document format. Interactivity features include interacting with other documents within the same nest or other nests, interacting with users, and maintaining security.

摘要: Techniques are provided for ranking the entities that are identified in a document based on an estimated likelihood that a user will actually make use of the annotations. According to one disclosed approach, usage data that indicates how users interact with annotations contained in documents presented to the users is collected. Based on the usage data, weights are generated for features of a feature vector. The weights are then used to modify feature scores of entities, and the modified feature scores are used to determine how to annotate documents. Specifically, a set of entities are identified within a document. A ranking for the identified entities is determined based, at least in part, on (a) feature vector scores for each of the identified entities, and (b) the weights generated for the features of the feature vector. The document is then annotated based, at least in part, on the ranking.

摘要: In an example embodiment, the present invention provides methods and logic for enhancing augmented search, including contextual search, conducted by a search engine. In some instances, a contextual search might return a set of results that are less relevant than the set of results returned by algorithmic search. This might occur when the quantity of contextual information is very large or when the contextual information includes misspellings. An embodiment of the present invention detects such occurrences and corrects the set of results provided to the user by merging a ranked set of results from the contextual search with a ranked set of results from an algorithmic search. During this merge process, an embodiment of the present invention replaces irrelevant results from the contextual search with results from the algorithmic search if the latter results fall within the context used for the contextual search. Embodiments of the present invention might also be used to enhance, in a similar fashion, personalized search and other forms of augmented search.

摘要: This invention pioneers an enhanced crawling mechanism and technique called “Enhanced Browser Based Web Crawling”. It permits the fault-tolerant gathering of dynamic data documents on the World Wide Web (WWW). The Enhanced Browser Based Web Crawler technology of this invention is implemented by incorporating the intricate functionality of a web browser into the crawler engine so that documents are properly analyzed. Essentially, the Enhanced Browser Based Crawler acts similarly to a web browser after retrieving the initially requested document. It then loads additional or included documents as needed or required (e.g. inline-frames, frames, images, applets, audio, video, or equivalents.). The Crawler then executes client side script or code and produces the final HTML markup. This final HTML markup is ordinarily used for the rendering for user presentation process. However, unlike a web browser this invention does not render the composed document for viewing purposes. Rather it analyzes or summarizes it, thereby extracting valuable metadata and other important information contained within the document. Also, this invention introduces the integration of optical character recognition (OCR) techniques into the crawler architecture. The reason for this is to enable the web crawler summarization process to properly summarize image content (e.g. GIF, JPEG or an equivalent) without errors.

摘要: A system and method of automating and managing bids within the context of an Internet auction is disclosed. The present invention permits continuous monitoring and verification of auctions on the Internet based on criterion such as highest bid on an item, maximum permissible bid, and a restriction on the number of successful bids in the auctions by any given participant (0109). The present invention permits embodiments incorporating an auction profile database (0101) that is generated by an auction profile configuration tool (0102) to act as input to an item search manager (0104) that takes data from an item database (0105) and control from an item selector (0103) to then interact with an auction bid controller (0106) that communicates with the remote auction site via an auction command interface (0107).In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, an information processing system and computer readable storage medium is disclosed for carrying out the above method.
