    Abstract: A filter cartridge (20) for removing particulates from a particulate laden fluid stream moving one direction through the filter cartridge. The filter cartridge (20) is periodically subject to cleaning fluid moving in an opposite direction to the fluid stream. The filter cartridge (20) comprises filtration media (24) formed into a tubular configuration and having a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart pleats (26). A retention device (82) to limit radial movement of the filtration media (24) when subjected to the periodical cleaning fluid and to maintain the pleats (26) in the filtration media circumferentially spaced apart. A method of making a filter cartridge (20) for removing particulates from a fluid stream moving one direction through the filter cartridge and that is periodically subject to cleaning fluid moving in an opposite direction to the fluid stream. The method comprises the steps of providing filtration media (24) formed into a generally tubular configuration and having a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart pleats (26). A retention device (82) is applied to limit radial movement of the filtration media (24) in the opposite direction when subjected to the periodic cleaning fluid and to maintain the pleats (26) in the filtration media circumferentially spaced apart.

    Abstract: A filter element 10 for purifying fluids having a filter medium 11, an enclosure member 12, and a rod 13. The filter medium 11 has folds 14, which may be zigzag-shaped, and which define a fold height 15 and a pleat surface 16. At right angles to folds 14 extend end faces 17, which represent the course of the folds 14. The enclosure members 12 are arranged on the end faces 17. To support the folds 14, the rod 13 pierces through the pleat surfaces 16 of the folds 14 creating joints 19. These joints 19 are sealed, e.g., by additional seals or by fusing the filter medium to the support rod or the support rod to the filter medium.

    Abstract: A process for manufacturing a fluid filter and a device for carrying out the process in which a fluid-permeable material is pre-folded to form a first filter region including a number of fold walls arranged as substantially zig-zag shaped continuous folds having at least one folded edge portion including a plurality of folded edges. An adhesive is applied in a form of strips or threads to a substantially flat substrate material. The adhesive strips or threads on the substrate material are brought into contact with the folded edge portion in an orientation crossing the folded edges of the folded edge portion for interconnecting the fold walls and so that the substrate material essentially covers the entire folded edge portion. The adhesive is cured for bonding the strips or threads of adhesive to the folded edge portion.

    Abstract: A filter apparatus includes a filter element. The filter element is formed of a sheet of gas-porous filter material which has been folded into accordian pleats. Alternate pleat-folds are of tight, near knife-edge definition, and arcuate form definition. Hence, all folds on one side of the accordian-folded material are of the knife-edge form, and all folds on the other side are of the arcuate. The pleated material is turned into a cylindrical conformation, with the arcuate folds confronting the central axis of the cylinder, and the tight, knife-edge folds outwardly directed. An adhesive-backed band circumscribes the cylinder to hold the accordian-folded material in such form. Ends caps, one with a central aperture formed therein, are fixed to the ends of the cylinder. The latter is then positioned and secured under a venturi section or pipe. The venturi section or pipe, in any cross-section thereof, is of rectilinear shape.
