Formulation components such as bleach boosting compounds selected from the group consisting of bleach boosters comprising quaternary imine cations, zwitterions, polyions having a net charge of from about +3 to about 3 and mixtures thereof, bleaching species comprising oxariridinium cations, zwitterions, polyions having a net charge of from about +3 to about −3 and mixtures thereof, and mixtures thereof are disclosed. The bleach boosting compounds increase bleaching effectiveness even in lower temperature solutions and provides improved stability toward unwanted boosting compound decomposition. The bleach boosting compounds are ideally suited for inclusion into bleaching compositions including those with detersive surfactants and enzymes. Also provided is a method for laundering a fabric employing the bleach compounds, a laundry additive product employing the bleach boosting compounds.

A detergent or disinfectant composition comprising is presented having 0.5 to 10 percent by weight of an activator compound which under perhydrolysis conditions forms a percarboxylic acid, and releases a leaving group capable of being used as a substrate for enzymes, and up to 50 percent by weight of a peroxygen compound. The composition increases the oxidation of peroxide compounds in oxidation, bleaching, detergent, cleaning and disinfecting solutions, especially at low temperatures.

A process is disclosed for cleaning of a substrate, comprising the steps of (1) adding a molecular oxygen activating system (as defined herein) to an aqueous wash liquor, containing a sufficient amount of molecular oxygen for obtaining observable cleaning, and (2) cleaning the substrate with the thus-formed wash liquor. When using said process, significant substrate cleaning results could even be obtained in the absence of any usually applied active oxygen ingredient such as perborate or percarbonate.

Additives, such as, surfactants, anti-foaming agents, fabric softeners, stabilizers, inorganic builder salts, buffers, enzymes and the like may also be present. The compositions can be formulated as dry concentrated mixtures encapsulated or in loose powder form, aqueous solutions, aqueous solutions containing non-aqueous solvents and like forms. The compositions are effective as bleaching agents from below room temperature to higher temperatures, are biodegradable and are environmentally safe.
