Abstract:
A continuously cast and rolled sheet of an aluminum alloy having Mg in a content of 3 to 6% by weight is annealed, followed by strain correction, heat and hold treatment at a given temperature between 240° C. and 340° C. for one hour or more, and slowly cooling treatment, to thereby provide an aluminum alloy sheet having enhanced resistance to stress corrosion cracking and improved shape fixability. The slowly cooling treatment is carried out at a cooling rate chosen from a preset cooling zone corresponding to a present temperature zone S defined in obliquely lined surround form in the accompanying drawing.
Abstract:
An air bag module includes an air bag and an inflator being activatable to discharge inflator gas for inflating the air bag. The inflator has at least one discharge port through which inflator gas is discharged. A housing has a wall adjacent the discharge port of the inflator and includes at least one vent opening. The module also includes a movable member alignable with the vent opening. The movable member is movable relative to the vent opening for opening and closing the vent opening at a predetermined time during inflator activation to control the amount of inflator gas discharged into the air bag and the amount of inflator gas expelled out through the vent opening of the housing. A device is activatable during activation of the inflator to move the movable member relative to the vent opening at the predetermined time during inflator activation.
Abstract:
In accordance with a preferred embodiment of this invention, a commutator for electrical machines having a polymeric spool and aluminum alloy bars uniformly spaced around its periphery is formed. This commutator is useful in low voltage applications wherein the applied or produced voltage may vary from 3 to 30 volts. A critical feature in forming this commutator is the combination of an electrolytic etch and an electrolytic oxide formation on the surface of the aluminum alloy bars. This combination of steps provides means for bonding the aluminum alloy bars to the polymeric spool and also lowers the electrical resistance of alumina. In addition, alloying elements, preferably iron, increase the conductivity of the alumina layer and directionally balance the electrical resistance across the aluminum-alumina junction.
Abstract:
Vibration damping means for a mounting post of a roll-over protection canopy of a heavy vehicle such as a tractor, earth mover, or the like. A hollow square post has slightly concave walls and slides over an upright square mounting stub on the vehicle, to which it is secured by a bolt which impales the post and the stub. A reduced upper end portion of the stub receives a vibration damping member which is in the form of a hollow square. The member has rounded corners which fit snugly in the corners of the post, and the span across opposite faces of the member is less than the internal width of the post so as not to bind in the post.
