    摘要: A database management system for executing database operations in parallel by a plurality of nodes and a query processing method are described. The database management system contains a decision management node for deciding a distribution node for retrieving information so as to analyze a query received from an application program, generate a processing procedure for processing the query, and execute the process, and a join node for sorting, merging, and joining the information retrieved by the distribution node. When the query process is executed, the distribution node decided by the decision management node retrieves the information to be processed and the join node decided by the decision management node also obtains the result for the query from the retrieved information. The query result is outputted from an output node and transferred to the application program.

    摘要: An area in a page for a tuple-oriented file system is exclusively controlled such that a tuple is added to, deleted from or updated in a page including a tuple area in use, a vacant area having a deleted tuple and an unoccupied area. In the case where a transaction is active for increasing the total size of the vacant area in a given page, the particular vacant area is locked to prevent another active parallel transaction from using the same vacant area. During the time when the transaction for increasing the total size of the vacant area remains active, other transactions can add a tuple to the unoccupied area or update a tuple in use in the same page to the extent that the particular page is not compacted. The transaction for increasing the total size of the vacant area can perform a special compaction for collecting a plurality of discrete vacant areas into a continuous vacant area without increasing the unoccupied area in the page. The roll back operation can thus be executed securely.

    摘要: In a data base processing method including a central processing unit for analyzing a plurality of queries made from a plurality of users so as to determine an internal processing procedure with respect to a data base, and for performing the internal processing procedure; a secondary storage for storing data capable of being shared by each user; and, an input/output controlling processing unit including at least one cache storage, for controlling a transfer of a plurality of records which are required for input/output processing operations between the central processing unit and secondary storage. The data base processing method is featured in that a decision is made whether or not a prefetching operation is carried out at a start of an input/output processing operation by judging the internal processing procedure which has been formed by the query; a retrieval range into which a record to be fetched has been stored is formed when the prefetching operation is performed; and, a prefetching record number is determined as an input/output processing demand unit, taking account of an access characteristic of the internal processing procedure and also a system characteristic containing a size of the cache storage, a performance, of the central processing unit, and a traffic of the input/output processing unit.

    摘要: The present invention realize a high speed retrieval performance in a document retrieval system referring to partial data of documents including structured data such as XML documents and electric mails, without providing further memory. The present invention includes storage means for storing documents to be retrieved onto a disk device, a calculation means for calculating an allocated capacity of the memory, and storage means for saving, onto the memory, partial data of the documents stored on the disk device by the calculated allocated capacity of the memory. The present invention also includes a first retrieval means for retrieving partial data stored on the memory, determining means for determining whether or not to retrieve the documents stored on the disk device based on the result from the first retrieval, and a second means for retrieving the documents stored on the disk device based on the result from the above determination.
