Abstract: An illustrative cloud-based air-gapped data storage management (destination) system obtains authorized access to other (source) systems' backup copies, replicates those copies within the destination system, parses supplemental metadata included in the source backup copies, and integrates the replica copies into the destination system as though natively created there. Replica copies are integrated as backup copies without first restoring the source backup copies to a native data format. The source system lacks knowledge of or connectivity with the destination system, thus maintaining an “air gap” between the systems. The destination system preferably operates in a cloud computing environment. The destination system uses supplemental metadata from the replica copies to re-create or mimic the source's computing environment and to restore backed up data from the replica copies. The destination system also operates as an autonomous analytics engine, applying value-added services to backed up data pulled from source system(s).

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to restarting a database node. A database node may allocate memory segments that include a restart segment for storing data records. The database node may spawn processes to read a log and replay log records of the log to update the restart segment to store data records. The database node may determine to perform a restart operation to transition from a first mode to a second mode. Performing the restart operation may include ceasing reading the log at a stop position and storing, based on the stop position, database state information that enables the processes to resume reading the log from the stop position. The database node may further deallocate the memory segments except for the restart segment and terminate the processes. After performing the restart operation, the database node may spawn the processes, which may resume reading the log based on the database state information.

Abstract: Techniques manage tracking records in an application system which includes an active dump file and an inactive dump file. A set of tracking records indicating a state of the application system is received. The set of tracking records is added to the active dump file. A storage signal for storing the active dump file into a backup device associated with the application system is generated according to a determination that a size of the active dump file meets a predetermined size threshold and according to a determination that a state of the inactive dump file is a ready state. The ready state indicates that the inactive dump file is available for storing another set of tracking records to be received in the future. Accordingly, two dump files may alternately store tracking records, and copies of the dump files may be continuously stored into a backup device to improve reliability.

Abstract: A method for performing a backup operation includes initiating, via a client device, an archive log backup of a client storage array of the client device, generating the archive log backup on the client device, attaching a tag to the archive log backup that indicates that the archive log backup should be linked to a previously generated protection copy made using a snapshot-based backup operation, sending, from the client device to a backup storage system, the archive log backup, and linking the archive log backup to the previously generated protection copy based on the tag.

Abstract: An improved system architecture for scaling deployments of data management-as-a-service (DMaaS) distributes “job manager” functionality so that a large-scale data storage management system may be deployed in a cloud computing environment as DMaaS without experiencing performance bottlenecks that slow down core data protection operations at scale. The disclosed solution creates an infrastructure where job manager features run on any number of distinct machines or compute resources that act as local job managers. In the illustrative DMaaS, any number of components that scale horizontally (“the distributed components”) carry job management responsibility for storage management operations such as backup jobs, auxiliary copy jobs, archive jobs, etc. These distributed components are configured to perform locally as job managers and to see each storage management job through from beginning to end without centralized control. These distributed components or local job managers also maintain, collect, and locally store job metadata.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and machine-readable media are disclosed for isolating and reporting a volume placement error for a request to place a volume on a storage platform. A volume placement service requests information from a database using an optimized database query to determine an optimal location to place a new volume. The database returns no results. The volume placement service deconstructs the optimized database query to extract a plurality of queries. The volume placement service iterates over the plurality queries, combining queries in each iteration, to determine a cause for the database to return no results. The volume placement service determines based on the results of each iterative database request a cause the database to return an empty result. The volume placement service provides an indication of the cause for returning an empty result.

Abstract: A method includes updating, by at least one hardware processor, a table with a detected regression associated with database code of a database. A first stored procedure is performed to determine a root cause of the detected regression. A second stored procedure is performed to determine an impact of the detected regression based at least on the root cause. A determination is made on whether to perform mitigation of the detected regression based on the impact.

Abstract: A file-level snapshot access service provides direct access to individual files included in a snapshot for virtual volume of a block-storage service without requiring a volume to be re-created from the snapshot, attached to a computing device, or mounted in a file system. For example, a user/client may directly retrieve individual files from specified snapshots via a user interface/API of the file-level snapshot access service. Additionally, the file-level snapshot access service is configured to provide a listing of files included in a given snapshot. In some embodiments, a file-level snapshot access service may provide direct access to individual files included in snapshots generated for other types of storage systems, such as an object-based storage system.

Abstract: A computing system includes a memory device, a persistent storage device, and a processor. The persistent storage device includes a filesystem having filesystem objects and a protection system stored thereon. The protection system includes a filesystem minifilter driver and a protection service. The minifilter driver intercepts an input/output (I/O) event directed to a target filesystem object and extracts system event metadata from the I/O event. The system event metadata includes an identifier of the target filesystem object. The system event metadata is transmitted to the protection service and recorded in a record file. A backup copy of the target filesystem object created. The I/O event is released after recordation of the system event metadata and creation of the backup copy, thereby enabling the I/O event to be performed on the target filesystem object. During a system restore operation, the target filesystem object is replaced with the backup copy.
