Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including medium-encoded computer program products, for designing and manufacturing rotors for disc brake systems and apparatus include, in one aspect, a method including: placing a lattice structure in a ventilation space within a 3D model to create more internal surface area within a disc brake rotor between inner and outer rotor discs; adjusting a number of lattice unit cells for the lattice structure in different regions of the 3D model between the rotor discs to increase air turbulence in the ventilation space; adjusting one or more thicknesses of beams forming the lattice structure in different regions of the 3D model between the rotor discs to prevent structural failure under predefined loading conditions; and providing an updated version of the 3D model of the disc brake rotor that incorporates the lattice structure after adjustment of the number of lattice unit cells and the beam thickness(es).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including medium-encoded computer program products, for creating one or more gradients of different materials for a three dimensional (3D) surface model include, in one aspect, a system including: an additive manufacturing machine designed to use different materials in combination with each other when manufacturing objects; and means for creating a discretized gradient for a 3D surface model of an object, to be manufactured using the additive manufacturing machine, by inserting one or more 3D surfaces into the 3D surface model at specified locations, thereby creating a non-manifold version of the 3D surface model having multiple discrete volumetric regions, and assigning a material specification to each of the discrete volumetric regions, each of the material specifications being either a single one of the different materials or a specified combination of the different materials, which are usable by the additive manufacturing machine to manufacture the object.

In one aspect, a method includes specifying a continuous data format representation for a first property of an object and a discretized data format representation for a second property of the object, wherein the first property and the second property are different from each other; producing a 3D model of the object within a 3D space using the continuous and discretized data format representations, which overlap with each other in all three dimensions in at least a portion of the 3D space; and using at least one common access method into the 3D model of the object to obtain data from both the continuous and discretized data format representations, within the portion of the 3D space, to manufacture the object using one or more manufacturing processes.

Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus provide the ability to design a circuit. A behavior of the circuit is authored by dragging nodes from side panels and connecting them in an authoring canvas. Multiple circuit designs that satisfy the behavior are generated. A data grid table is generated and displays the circuit designs with each row representing a design, and the table is sortable based on columns that represent computed metrics. Upon selection of a design in the table, a computer generated circuit diagram is rendered. Interactive assembly instructions are generated and displayed. The interactive assembly instructions provide a text-based step-by-step guide to wire the circuit. Further, upon selection of an assembly instruction step, a corresponding element in the computer generated circuit diagram is highlighted.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present application sets forth a computer-implemented method for generating a three-dimensional (3D) surface model. The method includes joining a first 3D object having a first closed surface mesh and a second 3D object having a second closed surface mesh to produce an irregular surface mesh. The method further includes computing a first intersection contour for the irregular surface mesh. The method further includes removing at least one portion of the irregular surface mesh proximate to the first intersection contour to produce a first boundary. The method further includes growing the first boundary towards at least one other boundary. The method further includes connecting the first boundary to the at least one other boundary to produce a portion of a non-manifold surface mesh that comprises at least a portion of the 3D surface model.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including medium-encoded computer program products, for reducing or eliminating curl and wrap in additive manufacturing include, in at least one aspect, obtaining a three dimensional (3D) model of a 3D object to be additively manufactured using a thermoplastic material delivery apparatus; generating a variable width brim for at least a first layer of the 3D model, wherein a width of the brim varies from a maximum value to a minimum value at different locations adjacent at least the first layer of the 3D model, and the generating comprises varying the width of the brim in accordance with an amount of convexity of the 3D model in regions corresponding to the different locations; and outputting the variable width brim for use in preventing warping during the additive manufacturing of the object from the 3D model using the thermoplastic material delivery apparatus.

Abstract: A robot system is configured to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) objects using closed-loop, computer vision-based control. The robot system initiates fabrication based on a set of fabrication paths along which material is to be deposited. During deposition of material, the robot system captures video data and processes that data to determine the specific locations where the material is deposited. Based on these locations, the robot system adjusts future deposition locations to compensate for deviations from the fabrication paths. Additionally, because the robot system includes a 6-axis robotic arm, the robot system can deposit material at any locations, along any pathway, or across any surface. Accordingly, the robot system is capable of fabricating a 3D object with multiple non-parallel, non-horizontal, and/or non-planar layers.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, and computer program product provide the ability to simulate a construction schedule. A first three-dimensional (3D) model and a schedule are acquired. The schedule includes activities for building the 3D model. Each of the activities is associated with model object(s) of the 3D model. A subset of the activities is selected based on properties of the activities. A first simulation appearance (of the model objects attached to the selected subset of activities) is defined. A second simulation appearance is defined for remaining/non-selected activities. The selected subset, the first simulation appearance, and the second simulation appearance are packaged into a playback profile that is capable of being applied to a second 3D model. A simulation of construction of the first 3D model (that is based on the playback profile) is played back.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a stylization subsystem automatically modifies a three-dimensional (3D) object design. In operation, the stylization subsystem generates a simplified quad mesh based on an input triangle mesh that represents the 3D object design, a preferred orientation associated with at least a portion of the input triangle mesh, and mesh complexity constraint(s). The stylization subsystem then converts the simplified quad mesh to a simplified T-spline. Subsequently, the stylization subsystem creases one or more of edges included in the simplified T-spline to generate a stylized T-spline. Notably, the stylized T-spline represents a stylized design that is more convergent with the preferred orientation(s) than the 3D object design. Advantageously, relative to prior art approaches, the stylization subsystem can more efficiently modify the 3D object design to improve overall aesthetics and manufacturability.

Abstract: A tutorial system presents a tutorial comprising a series of steps for building a computing system and testing successful completion of at least one of the steps. The computing system comprises a programmable controller and at least one hardware component. The tutorial system is coupled to the target computing system via a connection. The tutorial system may present one or more programming steps for the user to enter and load particular programming to the controller. The tutorial system may further present one or more physical steps for the user to physically configure a particular hardware component, such as physically configuring connections or wiring between the particular hardware component and the controller and/or another hardware component of the computing system. The tutorial system directly tests successful completion of a physical step or a programming step through values received from the computing system via the connection.
