Abstract:
A two-part fastener for an assembly having a sealed joint formed by at least two flanges or sealing surfaces. A first flange defines a first opening, a second flange defines a second opening with a seal being disposed between the first and second flanges. The flanges and seal are secured together with a bolt and a receiver that defines a threaded hole for receiving the bolt. The receiver includes an end face engaging the first flange and a shoulder engaging the second flange. The spacing between the end face and the shoulder defines a gap for the seal. The shoulder of the receiver may include a weld bead that is welded to the second flange. In one embodiment, three flanges are assembled together with a seal between each flange.

A vehicle includes an interface and a processor programmed to prompt a user to configure a series of configurable features. The processor may be further programmed to sequentially output via the interface the series of configurable features based on a configuration request. The series of configurable features each prompting the user to select one of a plurality of options associated with the configurable feature to capture a preference of the user for the configurable feature. The processor may be further programmed to alter settings associated with the configurable features based on the selection of the options via the user interface.
Abstract:
An attachment joint for attaching a first panel to a second panel includes a threaded bolt, a cooperating speed nut, and a support plate interposed between the speed nut and a surface of the first panel opposite a mating surface of the first panel. The support plate is configured to engage and support a contour formed in an edge of the first panel. A motor vehicle panel subassembly including a first panel having a mating surface and an opposed surface and including at least one contour formed in an edge thereof and a second panel having a cooperating mating surface and a cooperating edge contour is assembled using the described attachment joint. The first panel may be a plastic motor vehicle fascia and the second panel may be a metal motor vehicle body panel such as a fender.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a handle intended to be gripped by an occupant of a vehicle is shown to comprise the steps of selecting a substrate including a first part and a second part. The first part and second part are wrapped with a covering material that may be a premium material such as leather and may also include a layer of foam padding. The first part and second part are assembled together and attached to each other. After the two parts are wrapped, the first part and second part are assembled together and attached to each other. A line of stitches may be formed on the covering material before the wrapping step that are wrapped to be visible on the handle.
