    Abstract: A modular potentiometer includes a magnetic block slide unit including a slide and a magnetic block disposed on the slide; a magnetic field sensing unit parallel to the magnetic block slide unit and including at least one Hall device and a circuit board electrically connected to the at least one Hall device, wherein the circuit board is modularized so that portions thereof are connected in series; a signal processing unit electrically connected to the magnetic field sensing unit to receive a sensing signal from the magnetic field sensing unit and thereby calculate a distance traveled by the magnetic block. Hence, due to the aforesaid segmental design, the non-contact potentiometer is easy to manufacture, mount, demount, and carry, and its manufacturing cost is reduced by modularizaton.

    Abstract: An optical housing for high power fiber components includes an upper cover, a lower base, and two isolating members. The upper cover includes a light-reflecting portion for containing the optical fiber and receiving and reflecting the light therefrom. The lower base is connected with the upper cover and includes a light-receiving portion which corresponds to the light-reflecting portion in position and surrounds the optical fiber, thereby receives the light from the light-reflecting portion. The isolating members are disposed between the upper cover and the lower base and located on two sides of the optical housing to prevent the leakage of light from the optical fiber.

    Abstract: A reflective modulator which comprises a coupler, two diodes and two DC block units. The coupler has an input end used to output an output signal, an output end used to output an output signal, a first load end connected to one of the diodes and a second load end connected to another one of the diodes. The DC block units connect between the diodes and the coupler for DC blocking. A message signal is selectively inputted to both of the two DC block units for operating the state of the two diodes. The two diodes turn on when the message signal is large enough. The two diodes turn off when the message signal is not large enough. The two diodes are implemented by PIN diodes. A BPSK modulator using the reflective modulator and a quadrature modulator using the BPSK modulator is also introduced.

    Abstract: A screw clamping device includes a body, a pressing unit, a resilient unit, a clamping unit and a connecting unit. The body is a hollow-core cylinder, is subject to axial penetration of a screwdriver, and is movable axially in synchrony with rotation of the screwdriver. The pressing unit is disposed on the body and adapted to press against a surface of a working object. The resilient unit is disposed between the body and the pressing unit. The clamping unit is rotatably connected to the body. The connecting unit has one end connected to the pressing unit and the other end connected to the clamping unit. While the body is moving axially, the connecting unit drives the clamping unit to rotate and thereby clamp or loosen screws.

    Abstract: An all-weather thermal-image pedestrian detection method includes (a) capturing diurnal thermal images and nocturnal thermal images of a same pedestrian and non-pedestrian object in a same defined block to create a sample database of thermal images, wherein the sample database comprises pedestrian samples and non-pedestrian samples; (b) performing LBP encoding on the pedestrian samples and the non-pedestrian samples, wherein complementary LBP codes in the same defined block are treated as identical LBP codes; (c) expressing the LBP codes in the same defined block as features by a gradient direction histogram (HOG) to obtain feature training samples of the pedestrian samples and the non-pedestrian samples; (d) entering the feature training samples into a SVM to undergo training by Adaboost so as to form a strong classifier; and (e) effectuating pedestrian detection by searching the strong classifiers in thermal images with sliding window technique to detect for presence of pedestrians.
