Abstract: An electronic device with a first off-display input region detects a first portion of an input on the input region. In response to the first portion of the input: when the first portion of the input meets first criteria without a characteristic intensity of the first input increasing above a first intensity threshold, the electronic device provides a first output that indicates a current state of a first attribute of the electronic device without altering the first attribute. The electronic device detects a second portion of the input. In response to the second portion of the input: if the second portion of the first input meets second criteria that require the characteristic intensity of the input increases above the first intensity threshold, the electronic device performs a first operation that alters the first attribute of the electronic device; and otherwise, the electronic device forgoes performing the first operation.

Abstract: A computing device receives an input that corresponds to a first part of a multi-part operation performed by an application executing on the computing device. In response to receiving the input corresponding to the first part of the multi-part operation, the computing device initiates an ongoing haptic output sequence. After initiating the ongoing haptic output sequence, the computing device receives an input that corresponds to a second part of the multi-part operation. In response to receiving the input corresponding to the second part of the multi-part operation, the computing device terminates the ongoing haptic output sequence.

Abstract: A method of providing a haptic output includes detecting a condition; determining if a head-mounted haptic accessory comprising an array of two or more haptic actuators is being worn by a user; determining an actuation pattern for the array of haptic actuators; and in response to detecting the condition and determining that the head-mounted haptic accessory is being worn by the user, initiating the actuation pattern to produce a directional haptic output that is configured to direct the user's attention along a direction.

Abstract: A computer system displays a user interface with one or more user interface elements and a background element. In response to detecting an input directed to the user interface: if the input is directed to a respective element of the one or more user interface elements and meets first input threshold criteria, the computer system performs an operation associated with the respective element; if the input is directed to the respective element and does not meet the first input threshold criteria, the computer system forgoes performing the operation associated with the respective element; if the input is directed to the background element and meets second input threshold criteria, the computer system changes an appearance of the background element; and, if the input is directed to the background element and does not meet the second input threshold criteria, the computer system forgoes changing the appearance of the background element.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to techniques and interfaces for managing media playback devices. In some embodiments, the techniques include varying a feedback based on movement of a computer system toward or away from an external device. In some embodiments, the techniques include displaying an interface that includes controls for controlling media playback on an external device when the computer system and the external device are playing media. In some embodiments, the techniques include performing operations at a computer system in response to an input having a size that is less than or greater than a size threshold. In some embodiments, the techniques include performing different operations at a computer system when status lights have states that indicate different states of the computer system.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed defining haptic patterns that include both haptic events and audio events, and optionally include video or animation. The haptic patterns can be called from an application or included as an attachment to a message and played on an electronic device that receives the message. A haptics application programming interface has a haptic experience mapping functionality that generates a same, or similar, haptic experience on different manufacturers or models of electronic devices having different haptic hardware. Haptic patterns can include synchronized haptic and audio events. Haptic event attributes include start time, sharpness, and intensity. Sharpness and/or intensity can be controlled via a parameter envelope for a single event, or for multiple events in a haptic pattern. Sharpness indicates a quality of the tactile sensation of a haptic event, from smooth or rounded, to sharp or precise.

Abstract: An electronic device may include touch input components and associated haptic output components. The control circuitry may provide haptic output in response to touch input on the touch input components and may send wireless signals to the external electronic device based on the touch input. The haptic output components may provide local and global haptic output. Local haptic output may be used to guide a user to the location of the electronic device or to provide a button click sensation to the user in response to touch input. Global haptic output may be used to notify the user that the electronic device is aligned towards the external electronic device and is ready to receive user input to control or communicate with the external electronic device. Control circuitry may switch a haptic output component into an inactive mode to inform the user that a touch input component is inactive.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present disclosure is directed to a wearable electronic device. The wearable electronic device includes an enclosure having a sidewall with a button aperture defined therethrough, a display connected to the enclosure, and a processing element in communication with the display. The device also includes a sensing element in communication with the processing element and an input button at least partially received within the button aperture and in communication with the sensing element, the input button configured to receive two types of user inputs. During operation, the sensing element tracks movement of the input button to determine the two types of user inputs.
