    Abstract: A rotor assembly has a rotor including a plurality of laminations each defining a plurality of poles arranged such that values of a pair of angles corresponding to each of the poles and defined between a magnetic axis of the pole and respective interpolar axes adjacent thereto are different. The values of the pairs define a repeating sequence around the lamination. The angles opposite an axis of rotation of the rotor are equal.

    Abstract: A vehicle power module assembly including a stacked array of module frames, a manifold, and a pair of endplates is provided. The stacked array of module frames may each define a passthrough in registration with other of the passthroughs to define a manifold cavity, a power stage cavity, and a plurality of outlets open to the respective passthroughs and oriented relative to the power stage cavities to deliver coolant therebetween. The manifold may be disposed within the manifold cavity and defines a manifold inlet open to an inlet chamber and manifold ports for alignment with the plurality of outlets. One of the endplates may define an inlet open to the manifold inlet and another one of the endplates may define an outlet open to a manifold outlet. The inlets, outlets, and ports are arranged with one another to provide a coolant path between the endplate inlet and endplate outlet.

    Abstract: An electric machine for a vehicle may include a stator, a rotor, and a coolant channel assembly. The stator may include a core defining a cavity and windings disposed within and partially protruding out of the cavity. The rotor may be sized for disposal within the cavity adjacent the windings. The coolant channel assembly may include a channel wound about the partially protruding windings such that the channel and windings are in thermal communication with one another. The coolant channel may define a circular or rectangular cross-section. The coolant channel may define fins therein to induce turbulence into coolant flowing therethrough. The coolant channel and the windings may be arranged such that the coolant channel assembly directly contacts the windings. The coolant channel assembly may be wound such that a portion of the coolant channel assembly is partially disposed between the plurality of base portions.

    Abstract: A hybrid powertrain utilizes a motor with a permanent magnet rotor. The rotor is formed by inserting parallelepiped magnets into slots. To reduce the likelihood of demagnetization, the net magnetization of each magnet is oriented parallel to a sidewards surface of the magnet and not perpendicular to an outwards surface of the magnet. The magnets may be arranged in multiple rows. The magnets in each row may be perpendicular to a rotor radial or diagonal to a rotor diagonal.

    Abstract: A vehicle power stage assembly is disclosed which may include a power stage housing, a power stage supported by the housing, and a pair of stacked DC leadframes. The pair of stacked DC leadframes are of opposite polarity and spaced apart from one another. Each of the DC leadframes may extend from the power stage and each has distal and proximal ends. The spacing between the leadframes may be such that parasitic inductances associated with current flowing through each of the leadframes at least partially cancel one another. Each of the leadframes may define a first and second side surface opposite one another. The first side surfaces may be coplanar and the second side surfaces may be coplanar. A distance between the spaced apart pair of DC leadframes may be based on a preselected amount of current and a material of the DC leadframes.

    Abstract: An electric machine for a vehicle includes a stator having slots and a yolk region defining a plurality of channels extending between the opposing end faces of the stator. Windings extend through the slots and have end windings adjacent to the end faces. A rotor is disposed within the stator. The electric machine also includes first and second annular covers each defining a cavity having a plurality of walls partitioning the cavity into a plurality of cooling chambers that are circumferentially isolated from each other. Each of the covers is attached to one of the end faces such that a corresponding one of the end windings is disposed within one of the cavities, and such that each of the channels is in direct fluid communication with a corresponding one of the cooling chambers of the first cover and with a corresponding one of the cooling chambers of the second cover.

    Abstract: An electric motor system includes a stator and a cover. The stator has windings that are affixed to an end periphery of the stator. The cover is secured to stator and defines a channel and a plenum. The channel extends along the end periphery and is configured to direct cooling fluid about the windings. The plenum extends over at least twenty percent of an outer perimeter of the cover and is configured to direct cooling fluid into the channel.
