Abstract: A method of repairing a compressor outlet housing includes the steps of obtaining a damaged compressor outlet housing having a radially outer volute, a radially inwardly extending finger extending to an axially extending ledge, a radially inwardly extending web extending radially inwardly from the ledge, and a radially inner bearing support defining a bore. The method identifies a damaged section within at least one of the bearing support, the web, and the ledge, and removes at least the bearing support and the web to leave a remaining part. The method then inserts an insert having at least a replacement bearing support and a replacement web into the remaining part after the removal step. The method then welds the insert to the remaining part to provide a repaired compressor housing. A method of replacing a compressor outlet housing and a replacement compressor outlet housing are also disclosed.

Abstract: A compressor according to an exemplary embodiment of this disclosure, among other possible things includes, a rotor driven by a shaft and configured to compress air. A motor is drives the shaft. First and second journal bearings facilitate rotation of the shaft. The first journal bearing is located upstream from the motor, and the second journal bearing is located downstream from the motor. A thrust bearing also facilitates rotation of the shaft. The thrust bearing is downstream from the second journal bearing. A tie rod connects the shaft to a motor rotor shaft adjacent the first journal bearing. The tie rod includes an opening which is configured to communicate cooling air from the motor to the rotor. A method for cooling a compressor is also disclosed.

Abstract: A housing for an air cycle machine includes a housing with a first end and a second end opposite the first end, a first duct adjacent the first end of the housing with an air inlet and an air outlet, a second duct adjacent the second end of the housing with an air inlet and an air outlet, and a collar in the housing extending into the second duct. The collar includes a first annular surface facing radially inward and configured to engage a journal bearing and a second annular surface facing radially inward and configured to engage a rotating shaft, wherein the second surface is monolithic with the housing.

Abstract: A rotary machine includes a shaft extending through the rotary machine; a bearing positioned around the shaft; and an air deflector mounted on the shaft between the bearing and the shaft, wherein the air deflector has a first cylindrical body portion that is connected to a second cylindrical body portion with a ramp portion. A method for cooling a bearing positioned around a rotating shaft includes providing air to a cavity that surrounds a rotating shaft; deflecting the air towards an inner surface of a bearing that is positioned radially outward of the rotating shaft, wherein the air is deflected with an air deflector that is mounted on the rotating shaft; and flowing the air between an outer surface of the air deflector and the inner surface of the bearing.

Abstract: A method for repairing an air cycle machine compressor housing includes removing a journal bearing support sleeve in an air cycle machine compressor housing, positioning a cylindrical insert within the air cycle machine compressor housing, wherein the cylindrical insert has an outer diameter greater than an outer diameter of at least one portion of the removed journal bearing support sleeve, an inner diameter less than an inner diameter of at least one portion of the removed journal bearing support sleeve, and a length greater than a length of the removed journal bearing support sleeve, welding the cylindrical insert to the air cycle machine compressor housing, and machining the welded cylindrical insert to form a replacement journal bearing support sleeve.
