Abstract: A vehicular imaging system includes a camera with an imaging sensor. A first spectral filter is disposed at each pixel of a first set of photosensing pixels, a second spectral filter is disposed at each pixel of a second set of photosensing pixels, and each pixel of a third set of photosensing pixels senses at least near infrared radiation. Image data provided to the image processor includes output of the first set of photosensing pixels, output of the second set of photosensing pixels and output of the third set of photosensing pixels. The outputs of the photosensing pixels of the first and second sets of photosensing pixels are processed for a color camera function of the vehicle. The output of the photosensing pixels of the third set of photosensing pixels is processed for a night vision function of the vehicle.

Abstract: A camera module for a vehicular vision system includes a camera housing having a rear camera housing portion, a front camera housing portion, and a lens barrel at the front camera housing portion. A lens assembly includes a plurality of optical elements arranged along an optical path for focusing images at an imager. The optical elements include barrel-mounted optical elements disposed in the lens barrel and an outermost optical element disposed at a removable cover element. The imager is optically aligned with an optical axis of the lens assembly. The cover element is removably attached at the lens barrel such that, when attached, the outermost optical element is at an appropriate location relative to the barrel-mounted optical elements for focusing of images at the imager. The cover element seals against the lens barrel when the cover element is attached and seated at the lens barrel.

Abstract: A vehicular vision system includes a camera disposed at a vehicle and having a field of view exterior of the vehicle. The camera comprises an imager that captures image data. The camera comprises first and second outputs that output a respective data stream. A display device receives a first data stream from the first output of the camera, and a machine vision electronic control unit (ECU) receives a second data stream from the second output of said camera. The machine vision ECU processes the second data stream for at least one driving assist feature of the vehicle. The display device receives the first data stream and displays video images at a display screen of the display device for viewing by an occupant of the vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicular camera includes a circuit board having an imager disposed at a first side of the circuit board. A lens barrel includes a lens assembly having a plurality of lens elements spaced apart along the lens barrel by respective lens spacers, each lens spacer formed of a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of 10 ppm/° C. or less. The circuit board is positioned at the lens holder, and the lens barrel is positioned at a lens holder so as to optically align the lens and the imager. The lens barrel is formed of a material having a CTE that matches within ten percent of the CTE of the material that forms the lens holder, with the CTEs of the lens barrel and lens holder materials being greater than the CTE of the material of the lens spacers.

Abstract: A camera for a vehicular vision system includes a circuit board having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The circuit board has a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). An imager is disposed at the first surface of the circuit board, and a lens assembly is at the imager. A bend-countering element is disposed at one of the first side and the second side of the circuit board. The bend-countering element has a second CTE that is different from the first CTE of the circuit board. The bend-countering element is selected so that, with the camera disposed at the vehicle, the bend-countering element counters temperature-induced bending of the circuit board to maintain focus of the lens assembly at the imager.

Abstract: A vehicle vision system includes a camera configured to be positioned on a vehicle and a processing system operatively coupled to the camera. The processing system is operable to process image data captured by the camera. The image data is representative of a scene viewed by the camera. The processing system may further generate an image having three image panes including a central image pane derived from a first subset of captured image data and two side image panes derived from second and third subsets of captured image data. Each of the side image panes are shaped as parallelograms and arranged with respect to the central image pane to appear folded with respect to the central image pane. The processing system can output the image to a display for viewing by a driver of the vehicle.

Abstract: A method for assisting a driver of a vehicle towing a trailer includes providing a rear backup camera at a rear portion of the vehicle. A trailer having a trailer tow bar is attached to the trailer hitch of the vehicle. The vehicle is driven while towing the trailer and image data is captured via the rear backup camera and provided to a control at the vehicle. The image data captured while the vehicle is towing the trailer is processed at the control to determine an angle of the trailer tow bar relative to the vehicle. Responsive to determining the angle of the trailer tow bar relative to the vehicle, a degree of sway of the trailer relative to the vehicle is determined. Responsive to determination that the degree of sway is greater than a threshold degree of sway, an output is generated via the control.

Abstract: A vehicular camera includes a front camera housing and a lens assembly having cylindrical barrel portion that is at least partially received at the front camera housing. An adhesive is disposed in an uncured state at the front camera housing and/or at the printed circuit board and laterally outboard of the imager. With the adhesive in the uncured state, an air gap exists between the inner surface of the lens and the imager. The adhesive is initially cured from the uncured state to an initially-cured state in an initial radiation curing process that comprises exposure to UV light for a first time period. With the adhesive in the initially-cured state, the front camera housing, with the printed circuit board adhesively attached thereto, is further cured to a further more cured state in a secondary curing process undertaken for a longer time period than the first time period.

Abstract: A vehicular vision system and method includes a camera disposed at a vehicle and having a field of view interior or exterior of the vehicle. The camera is operable to wirelessly transmit image data captured by the camera. A display is disposed in the vehicle and is operable to display video images derived from image data captured by the camera and wirelessly transmitted by the camera. When operating in a setup mode, the camera wirelessly communicates with a portable device that configures the camera (i) for connection to a vehicular Wi-Fi hotspot of the vehicle and (ii) for operation of the camera with a control of the vehicle, whereby the display displays video images derived from the captured image data received at the control.

Abstract: An object detection system for a vehicle includes a camera vision module and a Lidar module. The camera vision module includes an imaging device viewing to the exterior of the vehicle and operable to capture image data representative of a scene exterior and forward of the vehicle. The Lidar module includes a Lidar device that, with the Lidar module mounted at a front exterior portion of the vehicle, scans a region forward of the vehicle that overlaps with the field of view of the imaging device. Based at least in part on processing of captured image data by an image processor using vision processing algorithms and based at least in part on distance data provided by the Lidar device, 3-dimensional information relative to the vehicle of an object present exterior of the vehicle is algorithmically constructed.
