    Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has: a body for carrying an article; at least one rotor; and a light source for generating a light beam to indicate the landing zone for the UAV. The UAV, in use, is flown to a desired location, that might be a site of an emergency with no defined landing zone. The UAV descends, and, while descending the light source is operated to illuminate and to define a landing zone. The UAV can be provided with lights and an audio source to warn and advise bystanders that the UAV is landing and to stand clear of the landing zone.

    Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system are provided for generating an encoded representation for one or more images. The method involves operating a processor to, for at least one image portion of a plurality of image portions of the image, receive a set of projection data representing an image intensity of the image portion along a plurality of projection directions; and identify a subset of projection data from the set of projection data associated with one or more dominant features. The set of projection data includes a subset of projection data for each projection direction of the plurality of projection directions. The processor is operable to generate the encoded representation based at least on a data variation within the subset of projection data for the at least one image portion.

    Abstract: Various embodiments of electronic flares are described which generally comprise a light module that is disposed along a portion of a housing and includes at least one light source for emitting light according to a lighting mode, a power source for providing power to the light module, a circuit board that is disposed within the housing and is electrically coupled to the power source and light module, the circuit board including a controller for providing power to the light module according to the selected lighting mode when the electronic flare is activated; and a switch having an external switch portion and an internal switch portion coupled to one another, the external switch portion being disposed along an outer portion of the housing and the internal switch portion being operatively coupled to the circuit board, the external switch portion being rotatably movable by a user to one or more positions where each position is associated with a different lighting mode allowing the user to select the lighting mode.

    Abstract: A surface cleaning apparatus has a cyclone bin assembly having a cyclone chamber. The cyclone chamber with a physical filtration member defining the cyclone air outlet. The physical filtration member extends from the cyclone air inlet end of the cyclone chamber towards an openable bottom end of the cyclone chamber. The physical filtration member comprises a conical section which decreases in diameter towards the openable bottom end of the cyclone chamber, wherein a projection of the conical section meets at a location that is positioned between the physical filtration member and the openable opposed end. An openable bottom end of the cyclone bin assembly and the openable bottom end of the cyclone chamber are openable concurrently.

    Abstract: An inoculation system for a bee hive having a hive opening includes (a) a body mountable to the hive intermediate the hive opening and an outside environment external the hive, (b) a bee pathway in the body for providing passage between the hive opening and the outside environment when the body is mounted to the hive, (c) a removable cartridge installed in the body and having a cartridge chamber storing an inoculum, and (d) an automatic inoculum dispenser in the body. The dispenser is operable to controllably dispense the inoculum from the cartridge chamber into the bee pathway to dust bees passing through the bee pathway with the inoculum.
