There is prepared an aqueous suspension which in addition to water, consists of 2 to 50 weight % of a mixture of bentonite and inorganic fibers, with the portion of inorganic fiber being 1 to 30 weight % and the portion of bentonite being 1 to 30 weight % and wherein the total amount of solids does not exceed 50 weight %. With the suspension there is attained an improvement of the mechanical properties of thermal insulating molded objects which are employed for thermal insulation and which for example, contain pyrogenically produced silica as a filler by delivery of this suspension on the thermal insulating plate. The suspension can also be delivered on thermal insulating molded bodies on which there is pressed a fiber net or a fiber felt. After applying the suspension several thermal insulating molded bodies can be joined together where the coating formed consisting of bentonite and inorganic fibers acts as binder. The heat insulating molded article in addition to this layer, can have one or more additional coatings based on organic or inorganic lacquer systems, silicone compositions or low melting glazes.

A process for removing extractables from carbon blacks in a fluidized bed, wherein low extractable carbon blacks are treated under relatively mild temperature conditions (320.degree. C.) with an oxygen containing gas and high extractable carbon blacks are treated first at 100.degree.-320.degree. C. with steam and then at 200.degree.-500.degree. C. with an oxygen containing gas. A definition of classification in the "low extractable" and "high extractable" categories is given.

A gas black burner is described which is used normally in connection with a rotating cooling roller as a deposition surface, so that its discharge openings for the operating gas containing the raw material for the carbon black are directed against the cooled deposition surface. The burner is characterized by the fact that it is formed as a pipe shaped chamber provided with at least one supply line and disposed in parallel relationship to the deposition surface, which chamber has slit shaped discharge openings in its jacket.The invention relates to a gas black burner with openings to be directed against a cooled deposition surface.

Polymeric ammonium compounds are disclosed which have a silica-type backbone, comprised of units having the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 represent a group ##STR2## in which R.sup.5 is an alkylene grouping and the free valencies of the oxygen atoms are saturated by silicon atoms of further groups (2), if appropriate with incroporation of crosslinking agents, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 have the meaning of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 or represent hydrogen, an alkyl group, cycloalkyl group or the benzyl group, X represents a 1- to 3-valent anion of a protonic acid which forms stable salts with amine bases and x can be a number from 1 to 3. Also disclosed are processes for preparing the polymeric ammonium compounds and to the use of these materials as ion exchange materials.

There is required titanium disulfide of high purity and stoichiometric composition as electrode material for certain types of batteries. With the known process for reacting preheated gaseous titanium tetrachloride with an excess of preheated gaseous hydrogen sulfide at 400.degree. to 600.degree. C., there is obtained a product which is not optimally usable. A titanium disulfide quality of higher purity and stoichiometry is obtained by forcing a deposition of the titanium disulfide on the inner walls of the reactor through regulating the temperature at the reactor walls and/or the residence time of the gaseous mixture. The titanium disulfide can be mechanically stripped off the walls and removed countercurrently to the waste gas stream from the reactor.

There is prepared pyrogenically produced silicon dioxide-mixed oxide having a BET surface area of 50 to 400 m.sup.2 /g which contains as a constituent of the mixed oxide:0.01 to 10 weight % zirconium dioxide or0.01 to 10 weight % iron oxide (ferric oxide) or0.01 to 9.9 weight % titanium dioxide.Because of the doping with the foreign oxide the silicon dioxide-mixed oxide is more temperature stable than the undoped silicon dioxide. The product can be used as thermal insulation either as unpressed material in free bulk form or as a compacted mixture.
