Abstract: A method of decoding a coded video bitstream implemented by a video decoder is provided. The method includes receiving, by a receiver of the video decoder, a mixed intra random access point (IRAP) picture including a first sub-picture and a second sub-picture, wherein the first sub-picture is an IRAP picture and the second sub-picture is a non-IRAP sub-picture; receiving, by the receiver; a reference picture list (RPL) for the mixed IRAP picture; decoding, by a processor of the video decoder, the second sub-picture using the RPL; and generating, by the processor, an image based on the second sub-picture as decoded. A corresponding encoding method is also provided.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism for viewpoint dependent video coding is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a spherical video signal stitched from multiple directional video streams. The spherical video signal is mapped into a plurality of sub-picture video signals each containing a sequence of sub-pictures. The plurality of sub-picture video signals, are encoded as a plurality of sub-picture bitstreams, such that, when decoded at a decoder, a value of each sample in each sub-picture is identical to a value of a corresponding sample in a decoded entire picture composed from the sub-pictures. The plurality of sub-picture bitstreams are composed into a plurality of sub-picture tracks with an indication that the sub-picture tracks are conforming to a particular video profile. The sub-picture bitstreams are transmitted toward a decoder to support decoding and displaying virtual reality video viewport.

Abstract: A method implemented in an encoder for encoding a video bitstream that includes coded data for a plurality of pictures, each of the plurality of pictures comprises at least one slice. The method includes encoding a flag that indicates whether tile information for a picture is present in a picture parameter set or present in a slice header, where the tile information indicates a location of a slice within the picture; encoding the tile information in only the picture parameter set when the flag indicates that the tile information for the picture is encoded in the picture parameter set; encoding the tile information in only the slice header when the flag indicates that the tile information for the picture is encoded in the slice header; and encoding data of the picture in the video bitstream based on the tile information.

A subset of the first level tiles is partitioned into a plurality of second level tiles. The first level tiles and the second level tiles are encoded into a bitstream. A split indication is encoded into the bitstream. The split indication indicates that at least one of the first level tiles is split into the second level tiles. The bitstream is stored for communication toward a decoder.

The media stream includes media data recorded at a plurality of viewpoints. The device obtains metadata information of the media stream. The metadata information includes viewpoint identification information of the viewpoints. The device displays media data of a first viewpoint based on the viewpoint identification information. The device also displays indications of other viewpoints when displaying the media data of the first viewpoint, so that a user of the device can switch to display media data of other viewpoints.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a bitstream including a first slice of a coded image. The coded image is associated with a picture parameter set (PPS) in the bitstream. The first slice is associated with a slice header in the bitstream. A list of identifiers (IDs) is parsed from the PPS. A first ID is parsed from the slice header of the first slice. The first ID matches one of the IDs in the list of IDs in the PPS. A list of tiles coded in the first slice is determined based on the first ID. The first slice is determined to generate a reconstructed sub-image of the coded image.

Abstract: A method of encoding a video bitstream implemented by a video encoder is disclosed. The method includes storing, in a memory of the video encoder, a set of less than five network abstraction layer (NAL) unit types available for video data; selecting, by a processor of the video encoder, a NAL unit type from the set of less than five NAL unit types for a picture from the video data; generating, by the processor of the video encoder, a video bitstream containing a NAL unit corresponding to the NAL unit type selected and containing an identifier identifying the NAL unit type selected; and transmitting, by a transmitter of the video encoder, the video bitstream toward a video decoder. Abstract: A method of decoding a coded video bitstream. The method includes obtaining a first reference picture list of a current slice represented in the coded video bitstream and a second reference picture list of the current slice, and marking a status of a reference picture in a decoded picture buffer (DPB) based on the first reference picture list and the second reference picture list when the current slice is a first slice in a current picture to which the current slice belongs. The status of the reference picture in the decoded picture buffer is one of used for short-term reference, used for long-term reference, or unused for reference. The method also includes using the reference picture in a reconstructing process of the current picture or a picture following the current picture when the status of the reference picture is used for short-term reference or used for long-term reference.
