    摘要: An optical pickup compatible with optical discs having different formats. A first light source emits a first light beam suitable for a first format optical disc. An objective lens is optimized for a wavelength of the first light source. Light reflected from the first optical disc provides a reproduction signal. A second light source emits a second light beam suitable for a second format optical disc. A light splitter splits the second light beam and the objective lens focuses the split beams onto the second disc as a main light spot and a sub-light spot. Lights reflected from the main light spot and the sub-light spot are independently detected and then processed to correct for chromatic aberration caused by a difference in the wavelengths of the first and second light beams and/or spherical aberration caused by thickness difference between the first and second format optical discs.

    摘要: A high-density focusing objective lens having a high numerical aperture (NA), which can be easily manufactured by an existing technique, and an optical pickup using the objective lens for high-density recording. The objective lens includes a first transmitting portion placed at a relatively near-axis region from the optical axis to divergently transmit an incident light beam; a first reflecting portion to divergently reflect the incident light beam, the first reflecting portion faces the first transmitting portion; a second reflecting portion, formed at a relatively far-axis region around the first transmitting portion that focuses and reflects the light reflected from the first reflecting portion; and a second transmitting portion, formed at a relatively far-axis region around the first reflecting portion, that refracts and transmits the light beam focused by the second reflecting portion as a peripheral light beam, wherein the maximum angle &agr; between the optical axis and the peripheral light beam satisfies the condition of 30° ≦&agr;≦65°. The optical pickup further includes the previously mentioned objective lens as a second objective lens, which is optionally placed into the optical path between a first objective lens and an optical medium. As a result, the NA of the objective lens unit can be increased up to 0.85 while the working distance d2 is maintained to be 0.2 mm.

    摘要: In a method and an apparatus for correcting aberration due to optical disk tilt, the apparatus includes a correction plate through which a first light beam passes by an object lens in an optical disk, a light source and a photo detector for generating and receiving a second light beam to detect the magnitude of the optical disk tilt, respectively, and an actuator for inclining the correction plate based on the detected signal. The correction plate has the same optical properties as those of the substrate of the optical disk, irrespective of the optical pick surroundings and offset the aberration due to the optical disk tilt. Therefore, while the best performance of the optical pickup is ensured, adverse effects caused by the aberration due to the optical disk tilt can be eliminated through simple circuitry.

    摘要: In detecting a focus error for an optical pickup, an inverse image generator for generating inverse images onto a light beam reflected from an optical disk is used in a focus error detecting method and apparatus thereof. The inverse image generator is composed of a semi-transmissive plane for splitting a light beam into first and second light beams, first and second prisms for inverting the phase of the second light beam, and third and fourth prisms for synthesizing the phase-inverted second light beam with the first light beam. Also, the inverse image generator has two quadrant wave plates, a polarization plane and light synthesizing plane for preventing a light loss. Since the errors due to an optical axis variation is eliminated from the focus error signal detected from the synthetic light beam radiated by the inverse generator, the optical pickup can be driven with stability.
