    摘要: An earth-boring bit comprising a bit body is cofigured at its upper end for connection into a drillstring. A fixed blade depends axially downwardly from the bit body. An axially extending slot is formed in the bit body adjacent the fixed blade. A bit leg is received and retained in the slot by engagement between the slot and correspondingly shaped bit leg, wherein the bit leg cannot be removed from the slot except by axial movement relative to the bit body. A rolling cutter is secured to the bit leg at its lower extent. A fastener secures the bit leg against movement relative to the bit body and extends through oblong apertures in the bit leg and into the bit body, wherein the bit leg can be moved axially relative to the bit body to adjust the projection of the rolling cutter relative to the fixed blade. The slot defines a pair of generally opposed sides connected by a third side, the generally opposed sides being inclined toward one another to define a dovetail that corresponds with the shape of the bit leg. The bit body further comprises a shank that is configured for connection into the drillstring at its upper extent and has a generally cylindrical receptacle formed in its lower extent; and a bit body portion having a generally cylindrical upper extent, the receptacle being and dimensioned to receive the upper extent of the bit body, wherein the shank and bit body portions are secured together by welding.

    摘要: A rolling cone drill bit including multiple cones with regions of intermeshing and non-intermeshing cutter elements. In the non-intermeshed regions, an array of cutter elements is disposed about the cone surface in a non-circumferential arrangement with the cutter elements being mounted at differing radial distances from the bit axis. This non-circumferential arrangement, which may be a spiral, multiple spirals, other patterns of offset cutter elements, or a random arrangement, provides a composite cutting profile having substantial width and bottomhole coverage and is free of ridge-producing voids. In certain embodiments, the composite cutting profiles of the arrays at least partially overlap, and may be arranged to cover a portion of or the entire non-intermeshed region on the cones.

    摘要: A matrix drill bit and method of manufacturing a matrix bit having back raked cutting elements is disclosed. In one aspect, a matrix drill bit for well drilling includes a matrix bit body that has a front area in a direction of drilling and two or more diamond impregnated cutting blades protruding from the front area of the matrix bit body. The cutting blades each have a front external surface protruding from the front area of the matrix bit body and present a plurality of back raked downhole interface surfaces in the direction of drilling. The downhole interface surfaces span a leading face and a trailing face where the leading face extends to a first height and the trailing face extends to a second height and the first height is greater than the second height.

    摘要: A method is provided for removing a body of selected material from the interior of a casing extending into a borehole formed in an earth formation. The method comprises lowering a drill bit for further drilling of the borehole, into the casing, the drill bit having a longitudinal axis of rotation during operation, the drill bit comprising rock cutting means, at least one protection member for protecting the inner surface of the casing from contact with the rock cutting means, each protection member being adapted to remove said selected material from the interior of the casing and being radially movable towards the inner surface of the casing, and control means for applying a radially outward force of controlled magnitude to the protection member. The drill bit is rotated in the casing, and the control means is operated so as to apply said radially outward force of controlled magnitude to the protection member.
