摘要: A cutting element comprises a supporting substrate, and a cutting table attached to an end of the supporting substrate. The cutting table comprises a first region and a second region. The first region comprising inter-bonded diamond particles and is substantially free of at least highly catalytic metallic compounds, one or more non-catalytic compounds within interstitial spaces between the inter-bonded diamond particles, and voids within interstitial spaces between the inter-bonded diamond particles. The second region comprising inter-bonded diamond particles, one or more non-catalytic compounds within interstitial spaces between the inter-bonded diamond particles, and one or more metallic phases within interstitial spaces between the inter-bonded diamond particles. The first region of the cutting table has a content of elemental metal of at least about 2.6 wt %. A method of forming a cutting element, and an earth-boring tool are also described.

摘要: A reamer for drill string pullback of a horizontal directional drill includes a shaft portion defining a central axis and a first end configured for attachment with a drill string of the horizontal directional drill. A plurality of vanes extend radially from an outer periphery of the shaft, each of the plurality of vanes defining an outer peripheral tooth base surface. On each of the plurality of vanes, a plurality of cutter teeth are individually and removably secured along the outer peripheral tooth base surface thereof, each one of the plurality of cutter teeth including a body and a PDC insert manufactured separately from the body and joined therewith. Each cutter tooth of the plurality is coupled to the respective one of the plurality of vanes by a removable fastener extending at least partially through the cutter tooth and at least partially through the one of the plurality of vanes.

摘要: Cutting elements include a carbonate diamond-bonded body that is sintered under HPHT conditions in the presence of a carbonate material, where the body includes a matrix phase of intercrystalline bonded diamond with interstitial regions including the carbonate material, where the diamond-bonded body is sintered without a substrate. A matrix casting is formed and mechanically coupled to the body after the body is sintered, and a portion of the body surface is exposed along a surface of the matrix casting. The exposed body surface is thereafter intentionally treated to induce a compressive residual surface stress that is greater than a remaining portion of the body. The compressive residual surface stress is less than about 500 MPa, and from about 100 to 500 MPa, and a remaining region the body may have a residual stress of less than about 300 MPa, and less than about 100 MPa.

摘要: In a drill bit which has hard-faced cutting or gauge protection elements positioned to be in direct contact with subterranean formation as the bit is rotated, at least one of these elements includes a window positioned to be in direct contact with the formation or cuttings from the formation as the bit rotates and moves forward to drill into the formation. Electromagnetic radiation with wavelength in the range from 100 nm to 2600 nm is transmitted through the window to the formation in contact with the window. Electromagnetic radiation such as fluorescence that returns through the same window is received by a spectrometer. The source and receiver of electromagnetic radiation are both accommodated within the downhole drilling equipment but spaced from the windowed element. The electromagnetic radiation travels along light guides from the source to the window and from the window to the receiver.

摘要: A drilling tip includes a tip main body that has a posterior end portion having a columnar or disk shape centered on a tip center line and a distal end portion and is made of a cemented carbide and a hard layer that coats the distal end portion and is made of a polycrystalline diamond sintered body. The distal end portion has a convex portion, and a concave portion. A diameter D of the posterior end portion is 8 mm to 20 mm. A ratio r1/D of a radius r1 of the convex portion is 0.1 to 0.65, and a ratio r2/D of a radius r2 of the concave portion is 0.05 to 3.0. An angle formed by a straight line that connects a tangent point which the convex portion tangents to the concave portion and a center of the convex portion to each other is 20° to 90°.

摘要: Polycrystalline compacts include a polycrystalline superabrasive material comprising a first plurality of grains of superabrasive material having a first average grain size and a second plurality of grains of superabrasive material having a second average grain size smaller than the first average grain size. The first plurality of grains is dispersed within a substantially continuous matrix of the second plurality of grains. Earth-boring tools may include a body and at least one polycrystalline compact attached thereto. Methods of forming polycrystalline compacts may include coating relatively larger grains of superabrasive material with relatively smaller grains of superabrasive material, forming a green structure comprising the coated grains, and sintering the green structure. Other methods include mixing diamond grains with a catalyst and subjecting the mixture to a pressure greater than about five gigapascals (5.0 GPa) and a temperature greater than about 1,300° C. to form a polycrystalline diamond compact.

摘要: Polycrystalline diamond constructions are formed from a mixture of diamond grains including a first volume of fine-sized diamond grains, and a second volume of coarse-sized diamond grains. The fine-sized diamond grains are partially graphitized, and the coarse-sized diamond grains are not graphitized. The mixture of diamond grains is subjected to high pressure/high temperature sintering process conditions in the presence of a sintering aid thereby forming polycrystalline diamond. Contact areas between coarse-sized diamond grains in the polycrystalline diamond construction are substantially free of graphite.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention relate to polycrystalline diamond compacts (“PDCs”) including a polycrystalline diamond (“PCD”) table having a structure for enhancing at least one of abrasion resistance, thermal stability, or impact resistance. In an embodiment, a PDC includes a PCD table. The PCD table includes a lower region including a plurality of diamond grains exhibiting a lower average grain size and at least an upper region adjacent to the lower region and including a plurality of diamond grains exhibiting an upper average grain size. The lower average grain size may be at least two times greater than that of the upper average grain size. The PDC includes a substrate having an interfacial surface that is bonded to the lower region of the PCD table. Other embodiments are directed methods of forming PDCs, and various applications for such PDCs in rotary drill bits, bearing apparatuses, and wire-drawing dies.
