Abstract: A power braking system having a vacuum operated pumping device for supplying fluid under pressure to operate a spring braking device. The pumping device has a housing with an internal cavity divided by a wall member. Vacuum is maintained on one side of the wall member while vacuum and atmospheric pressure are alternately communicated to the other side. This alternate communication will create a pressure differential across the wall member causing the wall member to reciprocate in the cavity. A cylinder having an inlet connected to a reservoir and an outlet operatively connected to the spring braking device contains a piston attached to the wall member. As the wall member reciprocates, the piston will pressurize the fluid transmitted to the outlet. A check valve located in the conduit leading from the outlet will prevent any backflow pressure while permitting the pumping device to raise the pressure in an accumulator to a predetermined value. When this predetermined pressure in the accumulator is equal to the force required to move the piston, alternate communication of vacuum and atmospheric pressure to the rear will automatically cease. An inversion valve has an inlet connected to the accumulator for communicating fluid under pressure through a control port to operate the spring brake device. Upon actuation of the inversion valve by an operator, fluid flow through the inlet is inhibited and the pressurized fluid allowed to escape to the reservoir to thereby permit the spring brakes to be applied. A pressure indicator located in the conduit between the check valve and the inversion valve will transmit a signal to an indicator to alert the operator if a low pressure condition is present in this braking system.

Abstract: A frequency independent peak detector includes a circuit for differentiating the signal whose peak is to be detected, with the output of the differentiating circuit being applied to a high gain amplifier whose output is either in a high or low state, depending on what state the differentiated signal is in. The differentiating circuit is comprised of a capacitor and a diode operating as a resistance which varies inversely proportional to frequency by virtue of the fact it is biased to operate in the exponential region of its volt-ampere characteristic. This compensates for the change in capacitor reactance as the input signal frequency varies to maintain the frequency-RC time constant product of the circuit relatively constant.

Abstract: An arrangement for providing indicator signals corresponding to the position of a movable object along a path including a pair of spaced limit stations, each in turn comprised of a pair of photocell sensors which produce high-low output signals when shaded or unshaded, respectively, by the movable object, and which are spaced so as to be simultaneously shaded as the object moves past the limit station. Abstract: A hydraulic brake booster is disclosed which includes a housing in which a spool valve is slidably supported to control fluid communication between a fluid pressure source and the booster pressure chamber. A frictionless pressure seal is provided to prevent fluid leakage from the pressure chamber to the outlet port through the interface between the outer circumferential surface of the spool and the wall of the housing. The frictionless pressure seal consists of a passage extending radially through the wall of the spool that communicates an annular groove in the outer circumferential surface of the spool with high pressure fluid contained in a channel provided within the spool. Abstract: A composite filter unit and cassette to serve as an air sampler for personal use in connection with a metering pump and a cyclone unit. The filter unit is formed of two opposed shells with interfitting flanges to provide a support for the circumferential edges of a filter disc and to form chambers on each side of the disc, one to serve as an inlet and one to serve as an outlet. The chambers are provided with tangential openings so that inlet air is directed parallel to the disc in a toroidal path where it can flow uniformly through the filter disc to the opposed chamber and outlet. Abstract: A sonic nebulizer having an electronic powered piezo-electric crystal to produce mechanical vibrations which are transmitted through a coupling fluid and focused on a second fluid contained in a chamber having a tangentially directed pressurized air inlet and a central opening whereby the nebulized second fluid is entrained by the vortex air flow generated in the chamber and the resulting fluid mixture carried through the outlet. Abstract: An omnidirectional, ultra high frequency transmitting antenna is disclosed having an unusually low profile and being of unusually rugged physical construction. A cylindrical monopole is attached to the outside conductor of a coaxial cable, and the center conductor is fastened to the apex of a conical dipole, with mechanical spacing and support between the dipoles being supplied by means of a ring of low loss dielectric material which provides dielectric loading for the antenna. With the dielectric loading, the height of the antenna can be made appreciably less than in the case of a conventional dipole antenna.
