Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for minimizing obstruction of a media asset by an overlay by predicting a path of movement of an object of interest of the media asset and avoiding placement of the overlay in the path of movement. To this end, a media guidance application may detect an object of interest in a first frame of a media asset, and may determine a determining a first location of the object in the first frame and a second location of the object of interest in a second frame. The media guidance application may calculate, based on the first location and the second location, a projected location of the object of interest in a third frame of the media asset, and may generate for display an overlay in a location that does not overlap with any of the first location, the second location, and the projected location.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for determining reduction of interest in a content series and to increasing the interest upon such determination. This may be accomplished by a device monitoring consumption of a content series to determine a pattern of consumption. The device may identify a change in the pattern of consumption indicative of a reduction of interest and determine a reason for the reduction in interest. Based on the reason for the reduction of interest, the device may provide an operation, such as a spoiler, to increase interest in the content series.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for selective audio segment compression for accelerated playback of media assets by service providers. A playback speed of the video segment of a media asset is calculated based on the duration of the video segment and a received playback time period. The system receives audio segments and corresponding priority weights. The audio segments with the lowest priority weight are removed from the group of various audio segments. The system then determines whether the duration of the remaining audio segments exceeds the received playback time period. If so, the system modifies the remaining audio segments by removing another audio segment with the lowest priority weight from the remaining audio segments. The system then rechecks whether the received playback time period is exceeded. If not, the system generates for playback the video segment based on the video playback speed and the remaining audio segments.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for enabling verbal interaction with an NLUI application without relying on express wake terms. The NLUI application receives an audio input comprising a plurality of terms. In response to determining that none of the terms is an express wake term pre-programmed into the NLUI application, the NLUI application determines a topic for the plurality of terms. The NLUI application then determines whether the topic is within a plurality of topics for which a response should be generated. If the determined topic of the audio input is within the plurality of topics, the NLUI application generates a response to the audio input.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for learning which content segments may be complex and providing enhanced content with playback of those complex segments. A complexity engine accesses content, the content includes a plurality of ordered segments and each of the plurality of segments associated with a complexity score. The complexity engine provides each of the plurality of ordered segments of the content for consumption. After receiving input that identifies a first segment of the plurality of segments as complex, the complexity engine calculates a comprehension threshold based on the complexity score associated with the first segment. While further providing content segments, the complexity engine identifies a subsequent segment where the complexity score is greater than or equal to the comprehension threshold. The complexity engine provides corresponding enhanced content with the subsequent segment.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for varied audio segment compression for accelerated playback of media assets. A priority weight for each of the various audio segments is then determined. Each audio segment for use during accelerated playback is based on the priority weight of that audio segment, the received playback time period, and a duration of that audio segment. A sum of the modified time for each audio segment equals the received playback time period. An accelerated playback speed for each audio segment is determined based on the modified time for that audio segment and the duration of that audio segment. The technique generates for playback the video segment based on a determined video playback speed and the audio segments based on the accelerated playback speed for each audio segment.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for identifying camera angles, based on network parameters, for content available at multiple camera angles. The system determines a network parameter of a network used to provide content that is recorded or rendered at various camera angles. The determined network parameters are used to identify camera angles that are supported by the network. For example, the video data associated with a camera angle having a prerequisite bit rate of 5 Megabits per second is supported by a network having a bandwidth parameter of 40 Mbps, while another camera angle having a prerequisite bit rate of 45 Megabits per second is not supported by the bandwidth parameter of 40 Mbps. The system provides the video data for identified camera angles supported by the network to a device for display.
