摘要: In a driving method of a panel, one field period is formed by arranging a plurality of subfields that have an initializing period for causing initializing discharge in a discharge cell, an address period for selectively causing address discharge in the discharge cell, and a sustain period for causing as many sustain discharges as the number corresponding to luminance weight in the discharge cell. One field period is formed by arranging a plurality of subfield groups having a plurality of subfields whose luminance weights monotonically increase. A holding period when discharge is not caused is disposed before the head subfield belonging to at least one subfield group of the plurality of subfield groups. In the initializing period of the head subfield belonging to at least one subfield group, an initializing operation of causing initializing discharge is performed in the discharge cell where the sustain discharge has been performed in the sustain period of the immediately preceding subfield.

摘要: An unnecessary discharge caused in the discharge cells in an initializing operation is prevented. This reduces the luminance of black level in a display image and stabilizes the address discharge at the same time, thus enhancing the image display quality. A plasma display panel that has a plurality of discharge cells having data electrodes and display electrode pairs, each formed of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, is driven for gradation display such that a plurality of subfields is set in one field and each of the subfields has an initializing period, an address period, and a sustain period. For the above purpose, in the driving method for the plasma display panel, the following operations are performed. In the address period of a predetermined subfield, after the application of a scan pulse to all the scan electrodes is completed, a ramp voltage gently falling from a first voltage is applied to the sustain electrodes. In the period during which the falling ramp voltage is applied to the sustain electrodes, a second voltage is applied to the data electrodes.

摘要: A data storage device, that stores write data by a head, rewrites data on an adjacent track at a timing which is different from write retry of detecting a head off track when data may be written to an adjacent track. When an off track error, which affects data on an adjacent track, is generated by a write command, rewrite processing of this write command is not executed immediately, but a rewrite request including information on the track to be rewritten and the shift amount of the off track is held. And the rewrite request being held is executed at a timing which is different from the write retry. So rewrite processing can be executed after vibration, which caused the off track, stops, and the generation of an off track error during rewrite processing and the generation of further off track writing can be prevented.

摘要: A two-phase driving operation is performed by a first circuit and a second circuit in at least one sub-field. The first circuit applies a first ramp waveform that drops from a first potential to a second potential to a plurality of first scan electrodes in a setup period, and sequentially applies a scan pulse to the plurality of first scan electrodes in a write period. The second circuit applies a second ramp waveform that drops from the first potential to a third potential that is higher than the second potential to a plurality of second scan electrodes, and then raises the plurality of second scan electrodes to a fourth potential in the setup period, and holds the plurality of second scan electrodes at a fifth potential that is higher than the third potential and lower than the fourth potential in a period where the first scan pulse is applied, and then sequentially applies a scan pulse to the plurality of second electrodes in the write period. Discharge failures during write discharges can be prevented from occurring by employing the two-phase driving operation.

摘要: A sustain pulse generation circuit of a plasma display device generates and switches a first sustain pulse for causing light emission having double peaks, a second sustain pulse having a falling edge steeper than that of the first sustain pulse, and a third sustain pulse having a rising edge and a falling edge steeper than those of the first sustain pulse and causing light emission having a single peak. The second sustain pulse or the third sustain pulse is generated immediately before the third sustain pulse. The first sustain pulse is generated immediately before the second sustain pulse. Provided between the second sustain pulse and the third sustain pulse and between the third sustain pulses is a first overlap period in which a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to rise is overlapped with a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to fall.
