摘要: The plasma display panel driving method is a method of driving a panel provided with a plurality of discharge cells, each having a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, and includes forming one-field period by arranging a plurality of sub-fields including an initializing period, address period, and sustain period, wherein sustain pulse is either a first sustain pulse for generating emission having one peak at the discharge cell or a second sustain pulse for generating emission having two peaks at the discharge cell, and rise time of second sustain pulse applied to the scan electrode and rise time of second sustain pulse applied to the sustain electrode are individually set in accordance with ratios of discharge cells for emitting light in the sustain period of the sub-field.

摘要: A sustain pulse generation circuit of a plasma display device generates and switches a first sustain pulse for causing light emission having double peaks, a second sustain pulse having a falling edge steeper than that of the first sustain pulse, and a third sustain pulse having a rising edge and a falling edge steeper than those of the first sustain pulse and causing light emission having a single peak. The second sustain pulse or the third sustain pulse is generated immediately before the third sustain pulse. The first sustain pulse is generated immediately before the second sustain pulse. Provided between the second sustain pulse and the third sustain pulse and between the third sustain pulses is a first overlap period in which a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to rise is overlapped with a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to fall.

摘要: A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided. The plasma display device has a panel having a plurality of discharge cells including a display electrode pair that is formed of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, and a temperature detecting circuit for detecting the ambient temperature of the panel and outputting the detected temperature. In the driving method, an unusual charge erasing period when a rectangular waveform voltage is applied to the scan electrode is disposed between the initializing period and address period of at least one of a plurality of subfields, and the number of subfields having the unusual charge erasing period is controlled based on the detected temperature detected by the temperature detecting circuit.

摘要: A method for driving a plasma display device which includes a plasma display panel provided with a plurality of discharge cells having a display electrode pair including a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, a temperature detection circuit for detecting an ambient temperature of the panel and outputting an detected temperature, and an APL detection circuit for detecting an APL of an image signal. The method provides an unusual-charge erasing period for applying a rectangular waveform voltage to the scan electrode between the initializing period and the address period in at least one subfield among the plurality of subfields; and controls a time period during which the rectangular waveform voltage is applied, based on the detected temperature detected by the temperature detection circuit and the APL detected by the APL detection circuit.

摘要: In the initializing period of each of sub-fields comprising one field, one of all-cell initializing operation and selective initializing operation is performed. The all-cell initializing operation causes initializing discharge in all the discharge cells for displaying an image. The selective initializing operation selectively causes initializing discharge only in the discharge cells subjected to sustaining discharge in the preceding sub-field. Provided in the all-cell initializing period is an abnormal charge erasing part in which application of a rectangular waveform voltage to the scan electrodes causes self-erasing discharge in the discharge cells having excessive wall voltage accumulated therein.

摘要: A method of driving a plasma display panel including discharge cells, each at an intersection of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, and a data electrode. One field period is divided into a plurality of sub-fields, each having an initializing period, writing period, and sustaining period. The sustaining period of at least one sub-field has a first sustaining period and a second sustaining period. In the first sustaining period, a transition period of a sustain pulse applied to the scan electrode is not temporally overlapped with a transition period of a sustain pulse applied to the sustain electrode. In a second sustaining period, a transition period of the sustain pulse applied to the scan electrode is temporally overlapped with a transition period of the sustain pulse applied to the sustain electrode. The second sustaining period is included at least at the end of the sustaining period.
