    Abstract: An air brush includes a housing having a chamber. A battery-driven fan is rotatably disposed in the chamber. The fan includes a plurality of radially extending blades. The chamber has an inlet opening and an outlet opening. A paint container is associated with the inlet opening for supplying paint to the fan. In a preferred embodiment, a guide extends from the paint container into contact with the fan blades for guiding paint to be sprayed to the extremities of the fan blades. The outlet opening is restricted by a detachable cover having a hole therethrough. The hole is of a selected predetermined size and shape to help spray a predetermined area with the air brush. The cover may be removed to permit a broader spray discharge. The chamber in the housing is provided with a drain opening. A detachable reservoir is secured to the housing below the drain opening for collecting paint discharged from the drain opening.

    Abstract: A method of making locking threaded fasteners having on the threaded surfaces thereof locking patch material formed by the accumulation of fused thermoplastic resin particles. The fasteners are advanced through a heating zone followed by an application zone. The fasteners are heated while in the heating zone to a temperature sufficient to fuse thermoplastic resin particles received on the threaded surfaces in the application zone. Thermoplastic resin particles are applied to the fasteners in the application zone by a mechanical propelling device which comprises a rotatable slinger that propels the particles by centrifugal force against the heated threaded surfaces. The thermoplastic resin particles build up on the threaded surfaces and fuse into locking patches. Apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A portable paint spraying device for generating a paint spray by centrifugally impelling liquid paint from the edge of a vertically oriented spinning disc. The disc is driven by an electric motor which also drives a conveyor screw used to lift the paint upwardly from a reservoir or container through a vertically oriented pump tube and into a spray chamber in the sprayer housing. The pump tube has a horizontal portion at the upper end thereof terminating in a delivery orifice through which the liquid paint is discharged into a centrally located recess or well in the front face of the disc. The disc has a relatively large flat annular region surrounding the central well which is in turn surrounded by an outer peripheral angled flange or lip having a feathered edge. The spray dispersion pattern is defined by a vertically oriented spray discharge slot in the pump housing, a movable shutter between the spray discharge slot and disc, and a series of baffles within the spray chamber which also assist in returning excess liquid to the paint reservoir. The amount of paint exiting from the paint sprayer may be controlled by controlling the amount of overlap between the movable shutter and spray discharge slot; also by diverting a portion of the paint which is lifted by the conveyor screw back to the reservoir instead of delivering same onto the sprayer disc.

    Abstract: The application of fluid additive to a moving filter tow for production of filter rod for cigarettes, is controlled by a system which provides monitoring of rate of application of the additive by weight. Fluid additive, such as plasticizer, is pumped from a measuring cylinder to an applicator booth, excess additive draining back to the cylinder. Pressure in the cylinder is monitored by a transducer and a control circuit is provided to compare the rate of loss of additive from the cylinder (as measured by change in pressure) with a required value and adjust the supply pump by way of a motor and gearbox accordingly. Fluid additive is periodically supplied to the cylinder from a flask and reservoir.

By placing the fin radially between the nozzle opening of the sprinkler head and the tree trunk the wedge-shaped fin splits the stream which would otherwise strike the tree trunk and causes it to pass on either side of the tree trunk.
