Abstract: A method of modifying playing of media content in a group watch session comprises receiving a command to modify play; determining respective preferences of respective users in the session; and, if it is determined that execution of the command is consistent with the preferences, causing modifying of the playing of at least a portion of the media content based on the received command, e.g., by skipping the portion, jumping to another play position, or rewinding or fast-forwarding through the portion. In this manner, the command is executed, or not executed, based on the preferences of multiple users. The method may include estimating a satisfaction score for the command for the respective users, and comparing the estimated satisfaction scores with a reference score. The portion(s) of the media content for which play is modified may be determined based on the estimated satisfaction scores.

Abstract: Systems and methods for enhancing user experience in accessing media of a certain content type by outputting the media on a nearby device that is better suited for access. For example, a media guidance application may determine that a user is accessing, on his/her smartphone, a digital page (e.g., a website, a newsfeed, etc.) that features embedded content (e.g., photos, movies, music, etc.). In response to determining that the user has navigated to an embedded content, such as a video clip, the media guidance application may determine a device in the vicinity of the user that is better suited than the user's smartphone for playback of the video clip. For example, a nearby smart television may have a larger screen, better sound output, and a better display resolution than the smartphone. As a result, the media guidance application may cause the smart television to output the video clip.

Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying certain objects within 360-degree content for user interaction. Objects within 360-degree content may be identified, and the corresponding segments of 360-degree content may be assigned a score according to how likely they may be to meet certain criteria, such as the likelihood that the user may interact with the object or its segment. Scores may be assigned in any manner, such as with reference to retrieved user information. In highly scored segments, users may be encouraged to pause the content at that segment, and interact with its objects. Encouragement may take any form, such as highlighting the segment or some component thereof. Likewise, interaction may also take any form, such as the allowing the user to alter the appearance of one or more segment objects in some way. In this manner, increased user interaction with 360-degree video is allowed, increasing viewer interest and engagement.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for recommending content based on a mood score associated with a user profile. The system accesses the viewing history of the user profile to determine media assets consumed and the mood score associated with each of the consumed media assets of the plurality of media assets. Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for modifying content recommendations based on what content items will be available on content platforms to which the user will have access during a trip. Content items to be recommended to the user on a first content platform are identified by comparing characteristics of each available content item to a profile associated with the user. A second content platform to which the user will have access during a particular time period in the near future is also identified. The second content platform is queried to identify content items that will be available during the particular time period. If any content item available on the second content platform during the particular time period also appears in the set of content items identified for recommendation, recommendation of that content item is suppressed.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing fast forwarding recommendations based on the user's consumption history are disclosed. The consumption history includes data relating to attributes that were previously rewinded and watched and those that were skipped and forwarded. It also includes scores for attributes that were present and absent in a portion that was previously rewinded or forwarded. A score is assigned to the attributes and used for determining a consumption pattern. If the consumption pattern indicates that the user previously rewinded and watched the attribute, then a recommendation not to skip an upcoming portion that includes the attribute is provided. A graphical timeline that depicts the amount of time saved by skipping the portion of the media asset with the attribute is also provided.
