    摘要: An apparatus for mitigating polarization dependent loss (PDL) in an optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of a modulated optical signal is disclosed. The apparatus may comprise a spectrum analyzer to measure an optical power spectrum of a modulated optical signal. The apparatus may also comprise a measuring unit to select a first portion of the modulated optical signal and a second portion of the modulated optical signal, where each of the first and second portions of the modulated optical signals may include an independent noise distribution indicative of PDL, and measure a time-varying parameter of the first and second portions. The apparatus may also include a signal processor to PDL in an OSNR by transforming any elliptical polarization associated with the independent noise distribution into a ball polarization, determining a correlation between time-varying parameters of the first and second portions, and calculating a PDL mitigated OSNR.

The system may include a circuit (e.g., in a field-programmable gate array (FPGA)) having an input, an oscillator, an edge detector, a bit counter, and a calculator element. In some examples, the input may receive an input signal under test. The oscillator may advance a timer at a known rate to facilitate generation of clock samples for the input signal under test. The edge detector may measure edges of the input signal under test based on the clock samples. The circuit may include at least one bit counter to store a count associated with the measured edges for a shorter interval timer period and a longer interval timer period. The calculator element may determine presence or quality of an external timing device based on the count.

A sensor display generator may determine a length of the DUT, receive, from a second OTDR device connectable to a second opposite end of the DUT, and over the DUT, OTDR information acquired by the second OTDR device in a direction from the second OTDR device towards the first OTDR device, and ascertain, based on acquisition by the first OTDR device, further OTDR information in a direction from the first OTDR device towards the second OTDR device. The sensor display generator may generate a bi-directional combined schematic display that includes relevant optical events with respect to the DUT.

    摘要: In some examples, a temperature distribution sensor may include a laser source to emit a laser beam that is tunable over a wavelength range. The wavelength range may be less than a Raman bandwidth in a device under test (DUT), or of-the-order-of the Raman bandwidth in the DUT. A pulsed source may apply a pulse drive signal to the laser beam or to a modulator to modulate the laser beam that is to be injected into the DUT. A bandpass filter may be operatively disposed between the laser source and the DUT, and may be configured to an anti-Stokes wavelength that is narrower than the Raman bandwidth. A photodiode may be operatively disposed between the bandpass filter and the DUT to acquire, from the DUT, anti-Stokes optical time-domain reflectometer traces for two preset wavelengths of the laser beam to determine a temperature distribution for the DUT.

    摘要: A system for troubleshooting signals in a cellular communications network, and in particular, for determining the cause of distortion or corruption of such signals, includes a robotic or other type of switch. The robotic switch can tap into selected uplink fiber-optic lines and selected downlink fiber-optic lines between radio equipment and radio equipment controllers in a wireless (e.g., cellular) network to extract therefrom the I and Q data. The selected I and Q data, in an optical form, is provided to an optical-to-electrical converter forming part of the system. The system includes an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) or the like, and an analytic computer unit, or web server, and SSD (Solid State Drive) and magnetic disk storage, among other components of the system. The system analyzes the I and Q data provided to it, and determines the cause, or at least narrows the field of possible causes, of impairment to transmitted signals. The system includes a display which provides the troubleshooting information thereon for a user of the system to review, or other form of a report, and may communicate the analytical findings to a remote location over a public or private internet protocol network.
