Abstract: A joint apparatus and method of assembly is disclosed for connecting building components such as panels, door jamb assemblies, windows and other structures. The apparatus includes an engagement structure with retaining elements that couple building components without the need for mechanical fasteners. The retaining element may contain serrations on which an adhesive is applied before a panel or other building component is secured to the joint apparatus. Other building components such as hinge assemblies include coupling members with a flange. The slots along a retaining element allows coupling members to snap fit into the joint apparatus once a flange is secured into the slots in order to lock the components.

Abstract: A plywood laminate having dimensional stability and resistance to warping and delamination is formed from a plurality of higher quality plies and a plurality of lower quality plies. The higher quality plies may be of hardwood and the lower quality plies may be of softwood or lower quality hardwoods, or the higher quality plies may have a veneer grade of better than ANSI/HPVA HP-1-2000 veneer grade C and the lower quality plies may have a veneer grade of no greater than ANSI/HPVA HP-1-2000 veneer grade C. The exposed plies are of the higher quality. In most embodiments, at least two adjacent interior plies are of the lower quality. In those embodiments having a tongue and groove or click-lock edge configuration, the tongue comprises portions of at least two plies and at least one of the plies is a higher quality ply.

Abstract: The floor plank is a laminate of two layers of flexible plastic sheet material laminated together in offset relationship to define an offset marginal portion for each of the layers. Each of the offset marginal portions have oppositely facing adhesive coated surfaces. A foam layer and/or a fiberglass sheet can also be included in the laminate structure of the floor plank. The floor plank can conform to surface contours of a floor base. The bottom layer of the floor plank, whether it is plastic sheet or foam, is conformable to surface irregularities of the floor base. A one piece releasable packaging device covers the oppositely facing adhesive coated surfaces of the offset marginal portions.

Abstract: Rectangular floor panels, a fastening system for joining the panels, and a method for laying and interlocking the panels are disclosed. The panels are provided complementary, form-fitting retaining profiles extending over the length of the sides. The complementary edges of the panels allow two adjacent panels to be positively joined such that displacement of the panels away from one another is prevented, while enabling articulation of the panels with respect to one another at the joint location. The method of installation provides for installing a new panel to a first row and a panel in a second row by first joining the new panel to the panel of the second row at its short side, followed by pivoting the new panel upwards out of the plane of the laid panels along its long side, along with at least the adjacent end of the first panel in the second row, into an inclined position, and sliding the new panel into the retaining profile of the panels in the first row. The new panel and the raised end of the panel in the second row are then pivoted down into the plane of the laid panels. Laying of panels continues according to this process until the complete floor assembly has been laid.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cladding panel for floors that has a groove (12) along at least one edge or end face (17) and a tongue (6) along at least one other edge or end face (17), the cross-sections of the tongue (6) and the groove (12) being matched to one another and the panels (1, 2) that are to be connected to one another being connectable by inserting the tongue (6) into the groove (12). According to the invention it is provided that on at least one wall surface (5) of the groove (12) and/or on at least one tongue surface (7), at least one bead (8) of cement is applied, and that on the tongue (6) in the tongue surface (7) that faces the wall surface (5) of the groove (12), which wall surface is provided with a bead (8), and/or in the groove (12) or in its legs (3, 4) on the wall surface (5) facing the tongue surface (7) that is provided with the bead (8), at least one other bead is applied and the two beads (8, 9) are locked to one another after insertion of the tongue (6) into the groove (12).

Abstract: A composite edge-glued wood product, comprising profiled pieces of lumber bonded and pressed together. The profiled pieces of lumber are made from waney lumber, which has been profiled such that the waney edges thereof have been removed to reveal profiled edges. The profiled edges each have at least one protrusion and one indentation. Interlocking engagement of the profiled pieces of lumber prevents lateral movement of adjacent profiled pieces of lumber relative to one another when the composite wood product is pressed. The invention makes use of waney lumber to make composite edge-glued wood products. The use of a standard edge glue press takes advantage of inexpensive conventional technology.

Abstract: Connectors for joining adjacent modular floor covering units. The connectors include a film and an adhesive layer coated on one side of the film. To install tiles using the connectors, a first tile is placed on the floor and a connector is positioned so that the adhesive layer faces upward and does not contact the floor. The connector is typically positioned so that only a portion of the adhesive layer adheres to the underside of the tile, leaving the remainder of the connector extending from the underside of the tile. Tiles are then positioned adjacent the first tile so that a portion of the connector adheres to the adjacent tiles. In this way, the connectors span adjacent tile edges. The tiles are assembled on a underlying flooring surface without the need to attach them to the floor surface. Rather, the tiles are linked to each other with the connectors, so that the tiles create a floor covering that “floats” on the under lying floor surface.
