Abstract: Embodiments include methods, systems and computer readable storage medium for a method for determining a fine direction of arrival (DOA) for a target is disclosed. The method includes receiving, by a plurality of receivers of a radar system, radar signals reflected by a target. The method further includes mitigating, by the radar system, phase shifts in the radar signals caused by a motion of the target. The method further includes determining, by the radar system, the fine DOA in response to the mitigation of phase shifts and based on the radar signals. The method further includes estimating and storing, by the radar system, a Doppler frequency based on the fine DOA.

Abstract: A radar system may include a transmitter, a receiver, and a controller. The controller may calculate a received beam response spectrum based on the received reflected radar signal, detect a first maximum value of the received beam response spectrum, identify an angle corresponding to the first maximum value as a first target angle, obtain a threshold envelope based on the first maximum value and the first target angle, detect a second maximum value in a portion of the received beam response spectrum being greater than the threshold envelope, identify an angle corresponding to the second maximum value as a second target angle, and output the first target angle as the angle of arrival of the reflected radar signal from the first target and the second target angle as the angle of arrival of the reflected radar signal from the second target.

Abstract: A system and method to perform multi-target detection in a code division multiple access (CDMA) radar system involve transmitting, from each transmitter among T transmitters, a transmitted signal with a different code, and receiving, at each receiver among one or more receivers, a received signal that includes reflections resulting from each of the transmitted signals with the different codes. The method includes processing the received signal at each of the one or more receivers by implementing T processing chains. Each of the T processing chains is iterative. The method also includes detecting an object at each completed iteration at each of the T processing chains, and subtracting a subtraction signal representing a contribution of the object to the received signal prior to subsequent iterations.

Abstract: A vehicle radar system, such as a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar system, for estimating a Doppler frequency shift and a method of using the same. In one example, a modulated signal is mixed with an orthogonal code sequence and is transmitted by a transmit antenna array with a plurality of transmitting antennas. The signals reflect off of a target object and are received by a receive antenna array with a plurality of receiving antennas. Each of the received signals, which likely includes a Doppler frequency shift, is processed and mixed with a number of frequency shift hypotheses that are intended to offset the Doppler frequency shift and result in a series of correlation values. The frequency shift hypothesis with the highest correlation value is selected and used to correct for the Doppler frequency shift so that more accurate target object parameters, such as velocity, can be obtained.

Abstract: A system and method to resolve ambiguity in a radar system involve detecting one or more objects with the radar system. The detecting includes obtaining range, azimuth, and an ambiguous range rate of a first object of the one or more objects. A plurality of Kalman filters are generated with state variables that include parameters based on the range, the azimuth, and the ambiguous range rate. Each of the plurality of Kalman filters provides a different estimate for an unambiguous range rate. The method also includes updating the plurality of Kalman filters using additional detections by the radar system, selecting a selected Kalman filter from among the plurality of Kalman filters that exhibits a highest probability mass among a plurality of probability mass corresponding with and derived from the plurality of Kalman filters, and determining the unambiguous range rate of the object using the selected Kalman filter.

Abstract: A system and method to use deep learning for super resolution in a radar system include obtaining first-resolution time samples from reflections based on transmissions by a first-resolution radar system of multiple frequency-modulated signals. The first-resolution radar system includes multiple transmit elements and multiple receive elements. The method also includes reducing resolution of the first-resolution time samples to obtain second-resolution time samples, implementing a matched filter on the first-resolution time samples to obtain a first-resolution data cube and on the second-resolution time samples to obtain a second-resolution data cube, processing the second-resolution data cube with a neural network to obtain a third-resolution data cube, and training the neural network based on a first loss obtained by comparing the first-resolution data cube with the third-resolution data cube. The neural network is used with a second-resolution radar system to detect one or more objects.

Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for detecting a plurality of targets in a radar device are disclosed. A transmitter transmits a source signal and a receiver receives echo signals from reflection of the source signal from the plurality of targets. A composite signal is generated that includes a plurality of target signals from the plurality of echo signals. A largest signal in the composite signal is identified and a value of a parameter of the largest signal is estimated. A representative signal is generated as a convolution of a point target having the estimated value of the parameter. The representative signal is subtracted from the composite signal to obtain a remaining signal. Another of the plurality of targets is determined using the remaining signal.
