    Abstract: An electronic device receives a first set of one or more inputs corresponding to user interface elements displayed on the display and a first set of one or more tactile outputs, and also receives a second set of one or more inputs corresponding to one or more hardware elements and a second set of one or more tactile outputs. In response, in accordance with a determination that the first set of one or more tactile outputs and the second set of one or more tactile outputs overlap, the device outputs, with one or more tactile output generators, a modified tactile output sequence that is modified so as to emphasize the second set of one or more tactile outputs relative to the first set of one or more tactile outputs.

    Abstract: An electronic device can include one or more user-selectable input areas. The user-selectable input area(s) may be situated at any suitable location in an electronic device. For example, the user-selectable input area can be displayed on a touchscreen display, positioned below a portion of an enclosure of the electronic device, and/or associated with, or included in, an input device in the electronic device. A user input may be guided to a user-selectable input area by providing one or more types of feedback to the user. The feedback can be tactile feedback, auditory feedback, olfactory feedback, visual feedback, and combinations thereof. Additionally, in some situations, the boundary or active area of a user-selectable input area is adjusted and a user input that is detected in the adjusted active area is associated with the user-selectable input area.

    Abstract: An electronic device detects a first increase in a characteristic intensity of a contact on a touch-sensitive surface, and in response the device produces a first tactile output that has a first tactile output profile. The first tactile output profile includes an output parameter that varies in accordance with a proximity of the characteristic intensity of the contact to meeting a first intensity criteria. While producing the tactile output that has the first tactile output profile, the device detects a second increase in the characteristic intensity of the contact. In response to detecting the second increase in the characteristic intensity, in accordance with a determination that the characteristic intensity meets the first intensity criteria, the device produces a second tactile output that has a second tactile output profile that is different from the first tactile output profile.

    Abstract: In an embodiment, an actuator or circuit includes elements moveably coupled via bearings positioned between curved grooves. The bearings and the curves may exert a restorative force to return the elements to an original position after movement and may be spherical, cubic, cylindrical, and/or include gears that interact with groove gears. In some embodiments, an electrical coil may be coplanar with a surface of an element and a hard magnet may be positioned in the center and be polarized to stabilize or destabilize the element with respect to another element. In various embodiments, a magnetic circuit includes an element with an electrical coil wrapped in multiple directions around the element. In some embodiments, an actuator includes attraction elements and exertion of force causes an element to approach, contact, and/or magnetically attach to one of the attraction elements.
