    Abstract: A system including a subsea module, a tool hanger, and an in-well tool string coupled to and extending from a lower portion of the tool hanger is provided. The subsea module includes a subsea spool with a main bore formed therethrough, and the main bore includes a tool hanger interface. The subsea module also includes a connector for mounting the subsea module on a subsea component, wherein the connector includes a grip configured to engage the subsea component, and a first seal coupled to the connector and configured to seal the connector against the subsea component. The tool hanger is disposed within the main bore and coupled to the tool hanger interface via at least a second seal configured to seal the tool hanger against the main bore of the subsea spool. The in-well tool string is configured to couple the tool hanger to an in-well tool.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting and arresting free fall of a mover in a linear motor for an ESP. In one embodiment, the motor of the ESP is initially automatically commutated, but is limited by the back pressure of the fluid being pumped. The drive system of the ESP monitors the speed of the mover in the linear motor and determines whether the speed of the mover exceeds a threshold speed (e.g., by determining whether time differentials between transitions in position sensor signals fall below a threshold value). If the speed of the mover does not exceed the threshold speed, the motor is deemed not to be in free fall. If the speed of the mover exceeds the threshold speed, the motor is considered to be in free fall, so automatic commutation of the motor is disabled and the mover is advanced through its stroke at a predetermined speed.

    Abstract: A method for introducing an organic drilling fluid additive into an aqueous drilling fluid in a subterranean formation, where the method includes introducing loaded microparticles into an aqueous drilling fluid. The loaded microparticles are made by absorbing at least one organic drilling fluid additive onto hybrid calcium carbonate microparticles to form loaded microparticles. The method further includes delivering the drilling fluid into a subterranean formation, and optionally shearing the loaded microparticles to release the absorbed drilling fluid additive(s) into the drilling fluid, such as by shearing them at the drill bit.

    Abstract: A well pump assembly has a barrel, a standing valve at an upper end of a standing valve chamber, and a plunger. A travelling valve admits well fluid into the barrel during a fill stroke. The travelling valve closes during a power stroke so that the plunger pushes well fluid from the barrel into the standing valve chamber. A gas release port extends from the standing valve chamber to the exterior of the pump assembly. A check valve in the gas release port has an outward flow blocking position for blocking liquid well fluid in the standing valve chamber from exiting through the gas release port while the plunger is in the power stroke. The cheek valve has a gas release position that enables gas present in the standing valve chamber to flow out the gas release port while the plunger is in the power stroke.

    Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for evaluating a volume of interest of an earth formation. Methods include estimating a parameter of interest of a volume of the formation using a value of a signal property (frequency amplitude) for a second harmonic mode signal component of a detected acoustic signal from the volume. Methods may include activating a transmitter to propagate an acoustic wave through the volume; producing the detected acoustic signal at a receiver responsive to the acoustic wave; and identifying the fundamental mode signal and the second harmonic mode signal associated with the detected acoustic signal. Methods include estimating an acoustic wave non-linearity parameter (β) for the volume using a relationship between the value of the signal property of the second harmonic mode signal component and a value of the signal property for a fundamental mode signal component of the detected acoustic signal.

    Abstract: An electrical submersible pump assembly includes a production pump, a motor containing a motor lubricant, and a seal section coupled between the motor and the pump. A drive shaft extends through the seal section, the drive shaft being rotated by the motor for driving the production pump. A mechanical face seal in the seal section seals around the shaft. A circulation pump is mounted to the shaft above the face seal for rotation therewith. An inlet passage leads from an exterior of the seal section to the circulation pump to deliver well fluid to the circulation pump. An outlet passage leads from the circulation pump to the exterior of the seal section to discharge well fluid exterior of the seal section. The rotating component of the face seal is located in the outlet passage.

    Abstract: Polycrystalline compacts include an interface between first and second volumes of a body of inter-bonded grains of hard material. The first volume is at least substantially free of interstitial material, and the second volume includes interstitial material in interstitial spaces between surfaces of the inter-bonded grains of hard material. The interface between the first and second volumes is configured, located and oriented such that cracks originating in the compact during use of the compacts and propagating along the interface generally toward a central axis of the compacts will propagate generally toward a back surface and away from a front cutting face of the compacts at an acute angle or angles. Methods of forming polycrystalline compacts involve the formation of such an interface within the compacts.
