Systems and techniques for managing local communication between a network access point and a host device. Upon connection by a host device to an access point, a local connection link is established between the access point and the host device. A network connection may be established between the access point and the host device, with the network connection being able to pass through the host device to enable communication with and beyond an access network to which the access point provides a connection. Local messages may be passed between the access point and the host device over the local connection link, separately from and independent of communication that may occur over the network connection.

A method, apparatus, and system for providing a communication resource for a communication device in a communication system. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a processor and memory having computer program code. The memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following: transmitting a message attaching to an access station over the air in an unlicensed frequency spectrum; receiving an acknowledgement over the unlicensed frequency spectrum; and receiving a multicast message indicating one selected from a channel change within the unlicensed frequency spectrum for a group including the apparatus and a radio technology change to a predetermined radio technology not using the unlicensed frequency spectrum for the group including the apparatus.
Abstract:
A secure network access point transmits a beacon transmission. A user device receiving it determines it does not have credentials necessary to attach with the secure network access point oint, and so a preliminary association is formed between the user device and the secure network access point. During the preliminary association, the user device receives or creates credentials necessary to associate with the secure network access point, forms an association with the secure network access point using the received or created credentials, and obtains internet connectivity via the secure network access point. In this embodiment there is only the secure network access point, but in another embodiment there is also a non-secure network access point which transmits a beacon using the same SSID as the secure network access point, and the preliminary association is with the non-secure network access point.

According to an example embodiment, a method may include sending, by a mobile station in a wireless network, a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) message to a DHCP server via a base station. The DHCP message may identify a packet data network (PDN) by access point node (APN). The method may also include exchanging data with the indicated packet data network via the base station.

In an example embodiment, a method may comprise receiving data from a home agent, wherein the data is directed to a mobile station that is coupled with a foreign network and the data includes an outer header having a foreign network address associated with the mobile station and an encapsulated header having a home network address associated with the mobile station; reading the encapsulated header to determine the home network address; and performing data classification using at least the home network address of the encapsulated header.
Abstract:
A mechanism for optimizing an establishment of a communication connection between a mobile node and a correspondent node in a packet based communication network using, for example, IP is proposed. After starting an application level communication connection setup, for example SIP based, between the mobile node and the correspondent node via a communication subsystem infrastructure, for example the IM subsystem infrastructure, a trigger signal comprising the address of the correspondent node is transmitted from the SIP layer to the IP layer in the mobile node via an interface. In response to the trigger signal, an IP level route optimization procedure is performed while the application level communication connection setup proceeds.

A method for updating filters, at a Packet Data Serving Node, with a care-of-address associated with at least one of a mobile station or a correspondent node. The method includes the steps of implementing a soft filtering rule at a Packet Data Serving Node and receiving, by the Packet Data Serving Node, a care-of-address that is associated with at least one the mobile station and a correspondent node. The method also includes updating, by the Packet Data Serving Node, filters with the care-of-address to correctly identify flows belonging to a particular session during Mobile IP use. The method further includes filtering, by the Packet Data Serving Node, packets including a care-of-address that is associated with one of the mobile station and the correspondent node.

A system for selectively updating an address of a mobile node capable of roaming in a home communication network and at least one visited network. The system including a database for storing at least one data entry which is a mapping between a humanly-readable identifier indicating the mobile node and a machine-readable identifier indicating a physical address at which the mobile node can be reached. A home agent in the home network has a connection to the database, and is operable to receive an update message from the mobile node when the mobile node roams into the visited network. Also there are units for determining whether the machine-readable identifier of the at least one entry in the database should be updated, wherein the database is updated if the update message additionally includes the humanly-readable identifier.

A method of establishing a communication in a mobile communication system includes two steps. The mobile communication system includes a core network and at least one user equipment connected thereto via a radio access network. The method includes providing at least two types of domain for carrying a predetermined datastream for the communication in the core network. The method also includes providing one of the types of domain for carrying the predetermined datastream in the radio access network.

The exemplary embodiments include a method to perform, based on at least one of hypertext transport protocol and non-hypertext transport protocol traffic tests failing, sending an hypertext transport protocol message to a subscription remediation server URI that carries a package1 message, receiving an hypertext transport protocol response from the subscription mediation server with a package2 message, and automatically replacing a password with a new value, automatically initiating creation of a new client certificate, or launching a browser to a URI provided in the response to enable user intervention. In addition, to receive an access request from a device, determining whether credentials are valid, and if the credentials are determined valid, sending an access-accept message with a success indication, and if the credentials are determined not valid, sending an access-accept message with a success indication and an indication that access by the device is limited to only a subscription remediation server.
