Abstract:
An improvement in the hot piercing of a previously cold drilled metal billet in which the bottom of the piercing press is equipped with a frustoconically bored ring, the aperture of which noticeably exceeds the cross-section of the desired billet bore or the expanding tool. During extrusion in an extrusion press, the section of the billet coming from the lower part of the piercing press is placed in the extrusion press adjacent to the dummy block.
Abstract:
Method of setting fire rings in gaskets according to which a metallic sheet is provided with holes having upstanding cylindrical rings dimensioned and positioned to register with holes in the gasket. Rings encircling these rims are then cut from the metallic sheet while retaining them in their relative position, the gasket is placed on the rings so that the rims project through the gasket holes, and the rims are pressed down against the gasket. The invention includes a machine which carries out all but the first of these steps successively and automatically.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for the extrusion of metals and alloys in an extrusion press wherein a lubricating disc about which an elastic band has been stretched is compactly placed in a tightly fitting manner in a substantially cylindrical shaped recess of a die holder which is ultimately positioned coaxially in the extrusion press so that the lubricating disc is between the die and the workpiece prior to the extrusion operation.
Abstract:
A piercing tool for piercing holes in large metal blocks comprising two distinct members. The shaft transmitting to the tool the force of the piercing press has rigidly secured and axially aligned to its end an axial member of smaller diameter than the shaft. A ring-shaped member having a diameter equal to that of the hole to be formed is annularly positioned about the axial member and is detachably mounted to the assembly made up of the shaft and axial member. After the hole has been pierced, the ring-shaped member is detached from that assembly as the tool is withdrawn through the hole in the metal billet.
