The invention concerns an apparatus for transferring sheet-like objects from a stack, said apparatus including separate lifting elements gripping by suction to the upper surface of the sheet-like object to be transferred, positioned in a row extending over the stack of the sheet-like objects, and transfer elements for transferring the lifted sheet-like object. The suction effect of the lifting elements is controlled by means of a control device including a light source making a substantially line-shaped illumination pattern. The invention concerns an apparatus for forward transferring sheet-like objects from a stack, said apparatus including separate lifting elements gripping by suction to the upper surface of the sheet-like object situated top-most on the stack. The gripping elements are positioned in a row extending over the stack of the sheet-like objects in transversal direction with respect to the forward direction of the sheet-like object. An apparatus for providing an automated device for removing horizontal members such as lid members from a vertical stack thereof one at a time for processing such as refurbishing, cleaning or sanitizing thereof. A carriage assembly is movably guided by a carriage guide plate between a pick-up position adjacent a lid stack for movement thereof one at a time to a releasing position for refurbishing. The carriage assembly includes a carriage frame defining a vacuum chamber therein connected through fluid flow communication to a source of vacuum and a source of high pressure blowback air. Pick-up outlets are defined in the carriage frame and include vacuum cups thereon to facilitate applying suction adjacent to a single lid for lifting thereof by the carriage assembly and movement from the pick-up position to the releasing position. A stack securement device is also provided for clamping the remaining portion of the stack as a single lid is removed from the top of the stack by vacuum.

In a pan unstacking and stacking system, stacks of pans are vertically positioned by pairs of spaced, parallel lift chains and pan engaging members mounted thereon. The lift chains are driven by drive shafts and drive sprockets which engage the upper and lower courses of a drive chain, respectively, thereby permitting adjustment of the spacing between the pan engaging members to accommodate pans of various sizes. The drive chain is in turn driven by a fluid powered cylinder operating through a clutch and brake apparatus to control the vertical positioning of the pan engaging members and pan stacks mounted thereon. Pans are transferred laterally relative to pan stacks supported on the pan engaging members by means of magnets positioned along a line in a horizontal plane situated above a stack and V-belts mounted for rotation around parallel courses situated on opposite sides of the line of magnets and including horizontal portions extending coincident therewith. To effect unstacking, magnets are lowered to engage the uppermost pan from a stack and then are raised to engage the pan with the belts, whereby the pan is transferred laterally. To effect stacking, the belts position a pan above the pan engaging members, after which the pan is pushed downwardly out of the field of the magnets and is dropped onto the stack.

The apparatus lifts the stack to a position where the top tier is held in place while the stack is again lowered. A plate is placed under the separated tier of containers, the tier is then released to the plate and the plate is moved out of the path of the stack. The separated tier is then moved onto a conveyor. The containers as they move onto the conveyor are separated and directed to a transversely moving conveyor in spaced relation where they are oriented with the containers all spaced and all of the containers in the same position.

Apparatus for feeding records successively from a stack comprises a finger for displacing the uppermost record out of alignment with the stack and into vertical alignment with a suction device positioned above the record. The suction device is lowered and a projection slidably carried in the suction device locates in the central hole of the record and rests on the next lower record in the stack. The suction device is also brought into engagement with the uppermost record, suction is applied and the suction device is raised, the projection remaining and being held in contact with the next lower record to assist in separation of the uppermost record from the next lower record, the projection then being raised with the suction device.
