Abstract:
A method includes displaying information associated with an application on an electronic device, providing a visual notification of a received communication, and detecting a gesture. In response to detecting the gesture, a first part of an inbox is displayed while reducing display of the information, including at least partially displaying information associated with the received communication. Based on a characteristic of the gesture, providing the visual notification is discontinued.
Abstract:
A method includes displaying information associated with a first application on a touch-sensitive display of an electronic device. A gesture is detected on the touch-sensitive display, which gesture indicates a request to display information associated with a second application. At least part of the information associated with the second application is displayed without opening the second application.
Abstract:
A method and system are provided for controlling an electronic device. The method includes detecting a gesture on a touch-sensitive input mechanism of the electronic device and operating the electronic device in a first mode associated with the gesture. The method may also include, prior to detecting the gesture, determining that the electronic device is operating in a second mode and displaying a visual indicator associated with the first mode upon determining the second mode.
Abstract:
A method comprises detecting, by a portable electronic device having a display, a gesture, selecting a category of selectable items based on the gesture. The method further comprises identifying one or more selectable items within the selected category to be displayed, and displaying the one or more selectable items.
Abstract:
A control circuit provides an incoming-call response-initiation zone on a touch-screen display in response to an incoming call. The control circuit then takes an incoming-call processing action in response to detecting a user's swipe-based gesture that begins in that incoming-call response-initiation zone. So configured, a user can begin a swipe in the incoming-call response-initiation zone that extends in a first direction that corresponds to accepting the call. When the user begins the swipe in the incoming-call response-initiation zone but extends that swipe in a second direction (that is, for example, opposite to the first direction) a different incoming call processing action results (such as “ignoring” the incoming call).

Abstract:
A method includes, while a portable electronic device including a display is in a low-power condition, detecting, by the portable electronic device, a gesture and identifying any informational icons to be displayed. The display is progressively illuminated while displaying the identified informational icons. Progressive illumination optionally occurs as long as the gesture is detected.
