Abstract:
A low-profile CD/DVD disk case has base and lid portions and spaced apart integrally formed living hinge members that extend between portions of a spine structure, the spine structure forming a rigid enlargement of the base portion. Preferably, the length and width of the base portion, including that of the spine structure, correspond to like dimensions of a standard jewel case, and an overall open length of the base and lid portions also correspond to that of the standard jewel case for automated handling and loading using existing jewel case machinery. Also, the thickness of the case can be only 5.2 mm, about half that of the standard jewel case, and there can be clearance openings for receiving standard storage posts, rings, or the like. Moreover, the case can be configured to hold two conventional disks within the same 5.2 mm thickness.
Abstract:
A security device for preventing theft of a disk such as a CD or DVD from a storage container having a base and a hinged lid, a pedestal including a button having retainers thereon that retract when the button is depressed for releasing the disk, and a wrapper holding the container closed. The device has a cap member and rearwardly extending flange and stem members. Release of the disk from the pedestal and removal of the disk through a slit made in the wrapper is blocked by the cap member preventing depression of the button, the flange member also positively holding the disk on the pedestal when the lid is deformed against the device. Preferably the device is releasably retained in a seated condition when the lid of the container is open. Also disclosed is a method for securing a disk container.

A disk enclosure includes a base panel; a pedestal projecting forwardly from the base and including a ring structure having a plurality of circumferential spring arches for biasingly contacting the disk, a central button portion having segments with retainer and stem elements; respective arm members supporting the button segments in cantilevered relation to the ring structure, the arm members having a relaxed position for retaining the disk by the retainer members contacting a front disk face proximate its central opening, the arm members being deflectable axially rearwardly to a depressed position for inward and rearward movement of the button segments permitting passage through the opening, the spring arches displacing the disk axially forwardly relative to the retainer portions as the arm members reach the depressed position. Rear surfaces of the retainer elements have outwardly and forwardly extending extremities for facilitating disk engagement. Front button surfaces slope forwardly and inwardly from outer extremities of the retainer elements for ramped engagement with the central opening during disk insertion. The arm members have spring hinges at the ring structure, thereby reducing the axial displacement of the retainer elements sufficient for passage through the central opening of the disk. An edge support has a shoulder forward of the panel portion for contacting the rear disk surface proximate its perimeter, a portion of the support extending further forwardly for protecting the disk perimeter. The shoulder surface is spaced rearwardly of the ring structure for avoiding strain within the disk.

A disk storage system for disks having a central opening includes a set of hingedly connectable disk trays, a pair of axle members for attachment to one of the trays on an axle axis thereof, and a storage container having hinge pedestals for engagement by the axle members. Hinged connections between adjacent trays is by tabs that are pivotable on respective hinge axes of the different trays, the tabs being engagable with respective tab cavities of adjacent trays.

The hinge structure includes a spaced pair of posts, each post having a spaced pair of leaf members and a reinforcing bridge connecting inwardly facing tips of the leaf members, for snap engagement with pairs of inwardly facing stub journals that are formed on the trays. The case has a closed position with the lid and base portions snaped together, each having a compact recessed overhanging lip formation opposite the spine portion for facilitating opening of the case.
