Abstract:
A method of synchronizing a crankshaft signal with the stroke cycle of a four-stroke internal combustion engine induces misfiring in a specified engine cylinder, and uses an assumed synchronization to identify the misfiring cylinder. The crankshaft signal is used to identify reference angular positions of the crankshaft intermediate top dead center positions of consecutive cylinders of the engine firing order, and a time difference between successive reference positions is determined. When the assumed synchronization is such that the current rotation of the crankshaft includes the cylinder in which misfiring is induced, the determined time difference is accumulated in a first accumulator; otherwise, the determined time difference is accumulated in a second accumulator. The presence of misfiring causes the two accumulators to diverge in value, and the direction of such divergence is used to determine if the assumed synchronization is correct or incorrect.
Abstract:
An optical illumination assembly comprising an array of optical microprisms and microlenses for redirecting light from a light source. Such displays are used in a wide variety of applications such as backlit flat panel displays requiring a directed light source which provides an efficient output of light. The illumination assembly has a light transmitter optically coupled to an input end of array of microprisms through an optional diffuser, and a microlens on the light output end of each microprism. The microprisms have a light input end optically coupled to the light transmitting means and a light output end spaced from the light input end. Two pairs of oppositely positioned sidewalls having one an edge defined by said light input end and another edge defined by said light output end are positioned for reflecting of transmitted light toward the light output end; When light from the light transmitting means enters each microprism through the light input end, the light is directed by said sidewalls through the microprisms to each light output end and then through the microlenses. Optionally a light diffuser is positioned between the light transmitter and the input end of the microprisms.
Abstract:
A seeding implement grain box is provided with a single piece molded plastic insert at the bottom of the box that forms an array of funnel sections having open lower ends that align with the openings in the grain box bottom wall. The funnel sections have sloping walls between each bottom wall opening to cover the flat portions of the bottom wall between the openings, thereby allowing the seed grain to completely empty from the grain box.
Abstract:
An automatically loading cord reel device which includes a cord reel housing, a rotatably contained spool with indexing slots, and a coiled spring which is coupled to said spool. A spring loaded indexing lever interacts with the indexing slots on the spool. The spool is pre-wound a fixed number of turns and the pre-wound device includes an exposed portion of a cord attachment device which is attached to the spool and extends out from a cord reeling aperture in the reel housing. The embodied cord attachment device includes a tongue-shaped strip of flexible material with an circular aperture and connected distally extending slot formed therethrough the exposed end portion of the tongue. A locking pin aperture also extends through the exposed portion of the tongue for receiving a locking pin. The pre-wound spool is thereby held in place by the locking pin to prevent unwinding. To use the device, knotted cords are placed through the readily accessible exposed cord attachment aperture and distally slid into the slot. Upon removal of the locking pin, the cords are automatically reeled inside the device to a pre-determined and/or indexably controlled length.
Abstract:
An aqueous drilling fluid which contains a diquaternary ammonium cation functionalized clay which provides a substantially constant rheological profile, with respect to salinity, when incorporated into well drilling fluids. A clay/organic chemical composition includes: (a) montmorillonite clay and (b) one or more diquaternary ammonium compounds. A further aspect of the invention is a well drilling process which employs a drilling fluid containing the diquaternary ammonium cation functionalized clay described hereafter.
Abstract:
A diskless host computer is automatically configured upon adding it to storage-area network (SAN). Upon physically connecting the diskless host computer to the network, the host computer alerts the network and a control station of its presence. A suitable identifier provided by the host, such as a Fibre Channel World Wide Name, is used to look up a configuration corresponding to a host of its type. Configurations corresponding to all types of hosts expected to be connected to the network are pre-stored in the SAN data storage system. Each configuration includes an operating system and can include any other software related to configuring or installing a new host. The control station then provides access to a storage device on which the operating system is stored so that the host can boot from it or access it for any other purposes.

Abstract:
The invention features charge-modified antidepressants and compounds conjugated to either a charged group or a bulky group in a manner that resists in vivo cleavage. The invention provides a method for treating a patient having an inflammatory disease by administering to the patient a compound of the invention.
Abstract:
A method and system for printing from a guest operating system that executes in a virtual PC. In the guest operating system, a special printer driver (or extension to an existing printer driver) is installed. The printer driver receives print data from the guest operating system and applications that execute therein. The printer driver or an extension thereof forwards the print data or data derived therefrom to a host component that executes in a host operating system. The host component forwards the print data or data derived therefrom to the normal print mechanisms within the host operating system.
Abstract:
Offloading the reordering of data between a first predefined order and a second predefined order by causing a secondary processor to perform an operation that was originally intended for another function, such as rendering a geometric shape. Pixels of image data are thus reordered from pixilated little endian order to big endian order with standardized textured draw operations performed by a graphics coprocessor. Preferably, only data that changed from a previous processing cycle are reordered. Subdivisions of the data are determined as a function of a predefined datum size. Further subsets of each subdivision can also be determined with a predefined mask, so that reordering can be applied to multiple subsets at a time. Coordinates of each subdivision are used as input to the secondary processor operation, which transforms the position of each datum so as to reorder the data between the first predefined order and the second predefined order.
