The surface light source device includes a light source body including a discharge space to generate a light source, at least one external electrode, which is disposed on an outer surface of one end of the light source body, is extended in a first direction, and applies a discharge voltage to the discharge space, and at least one power transfer unit, combined with the at least one external electrode, to apply the discharge voltage to the at least one external electrode. The at least one power transfer unit is a clip-shaped and clips on the at least one electrode disposed on the outer surface of the light source body.

The first substrate has a first discharge region, a first space diving region alternately formed with the first discharge region and a light transmission portion protruded from the first space dividing region. The second substrate faces the first substrate. The partition member is interposed between the first and second substrates to form a discharge space between the first and second substrates. The visible light generating unit disposed at the body generates a visible light. Therefore, dark lines displayed in a conventional display apparatus due to partition members are converted into bright lines, and the bright lines are diffused by the light diffusing patterns or the light diffusing part. Therefore, a luminance and a uniformity of the luminance are enhanced.

In a backlight assembly and a liquid crystal display apparatus, a plurality of lamps disposed in a receiving space of the backlight assembly is spaced apart from each other by various intervals between the lamps depending upon positions at which the lamps are disposed. Each of the lamps may also have an external electrode having a different area from each other or due to the positions at which the lamps are disposed. Furthermore, each of the lamps may have a different amount of discharge gas injected thereinto due to the positions at which the lamps are disposed. Accordingly, the liquid crystal display apparatus may provide a uniform brightness, and prevent deterioration of display quality thereof.

A backlight assembly and a liquid crystal display device can discharge heat from the lamp unit to the outside or effectively dissipate the heat. The backlight assembly of the present invention includes a lamp unit, a receiving member for receiving the lamp unit, a first heat dissipation member disposed below the receiving member, and a second heat dissipation for wrapping around a lateral side of the receiving member and the first heat dissipation member. The lamp unit is disposed on an area corresponding to the lateral side of the receiving member. In one embodiment, the first heat dissipation member is a flat plate made of graphite and disposed on an outer side of the bottom of the receiving member. The second heat dissipation member is metal with good thermal conductivity in close contact with the first heat dissipation member and the lateral side of the receiving member where the lamp unit is disposed. Thus, the heat discharged from the lamp unit can be distributed uniformly over the entire area of the receiving member. In addition, the lateral side of the receiving member where the lamp unit is disposed can be replaced with the second heat dissipation member.
